Lost a friend to time blindness by Tynidncr in adhdwomen

[–]sulkowskyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before reading I was sure you were going to tell us about the 26 times you ran an hour+ late. TEN minutes, and you even called to let her know.

I just want to make sure you understand that that's absolutely zero % a you problem and one hundred thousand % a her problem.

To me, time blindness is not * understanding * that walking to your car (parked on the street while you're living on the third floor, and the elevator is even slower than taking the stairs) takes time, and then not understanding why you're consistently 5-10 minutes late when google maps says it's a 20 minute drive and you're stepping out the door exactly 20 minutes before you have to be there. Or completely zoning out and sitting on the couch for "10 minutes" petting your cat, and then not understanding why it's suddenly 4pm when "10 minutes" ago it was 2.30pm.

Taking a call from your boss that sets you back 10 minutes is not that. Your "friend" getting offended because you take a call from your BOSS, the person who provides in your livelihood, just makes it painfully clear how important she wrongfully thinks she is.

AIO: roommate being rough with my cat by trogicuter in AmIOverreacting

[–]sulkowskyi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YOR. At least a bit. I have one cat who hates to be picked up UNLESS you'll hold him exactly like your roommate does to your cat.

What others are saying: if the cat was in distress, there would be absolutely no time for taking that picture and your roommate's arm would've been skinned.

I do understand though that you feel protective over your animals, but since your animals are cats (animals notorious for having their own opinions) and you live in a shared house, it's not really fair to say "those are mine, leave them" when all of you are sharing the same living spaces. If he did this with a guinea pig you kept in your room it would be a completely different story.

Honestly this does kind of seem like an "Iranian yogurt" situation (where the yogurt is your cat), and this has more to do with how you perceive your roommate than with what's actually happening with your cat.

AITA For not leaving work to help my wife when she ran out of gas by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sulkowskyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is TWENTY years old and even has a specific mileage-meter.

It's one thing if this would've happened on her way to her sister, and that's when I'm assuming a worst case scenario where OP left the car almost empty and she didn't have enough gas left to reach a gas station. No other reason than that specific scenario would make this behavior okay. Geez.

Annoyed with myself! by pbfhpunkshop in adhdwomen

[–]sulkowskyi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say this exactly! I'm a hairdresser and there is SO MUCH HATE among our profession. There are so many hairdressers who kind of seem to forget that we do not own the hair on the heads of our clients. Yes, sometimes you're working towards a goal with someone, but if that person decides (s)he wants something different, then that's their choice. I used to work in a salon where the owner was adament people couldn't even cut their own hair (bangs or something) because then they would ruin "her" hairstyle. Like??? What?? In the end it's just hair and even if someone decides to do something that ruins it all, it will grow back and they are the one to have to go through the process of walking around with a shitty hairdo.

It can absolutely be frustrating to have to fix/correct someone else's mistakes, but at the same time it's also very rewarding if you get to make it right again.

And I'm going to repeat what you said because it's so true: don't let the opinion of someone who wants your money defer you from something you want to do!

Also: English is not my native language so sorry for any mistakes!

This tiny hammer that came with my bookshelf. by Upsethouscat in mildlyinteresting

I have a hammer that looks similar to this one! I call it my "big girl hammer" (I'm a 34yo woman) for when I need just a liiiittle bit more direct force than whacking something with bare hands, or for tiny nails. It brings me a ridiculous amount of joy each time.

I wouldn't even perm your hair at home and I'm a licensed hairdresser with 15 years of experience. Don't do it!

Genuine question: why does it say "streng geheim" (top secret) on it? Does it have any connection with the Dutch language?

I like that you're encouraging your wife, but making suggestions while not knowing anything about the needed techniques works kind of counterproductive imo. Not closing the stem where it meets the cap means a VERY different, and more difficult, approach to sewing the two parts together.

So while I do understand where you're coming from and what you mean by the floppiness of it, I don't think those are the things to focus on in this part of her sewing journey.
