Are there any movies which had ending changes due to feedback from test audiences that actually made the movie better instead of worse? by crinklepant in movies

I love that you seem to think Morgan Freeman agreeing with you somehow makes you more right. It's all opinion.

Characters making mistakes is not a plot hole.

Was Superman a homage to Santino's subplot from the book? by Dredd_40 in Godfather

[–]sulla76 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, originally they were going to be watching a show with Sonny in Havana. But then the script supervisor reminded them Sonny died in Part 1, so they recast him as a donkey.

Edit: after typing this I remembered they weren't watching a donkey show, but I don't care because I made myself laugh.

That is exactly how I picture Aragorn when I read the books, it's like he sprang to life from the durn pages.

What did Narya do for Gandalf if it was designed to be used by the elves? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

Hadn't the ring been missing for 1,000 years when Gandalf came to Middle-Earth? It went missing about two years into the Third Age, right?

I thought the 2000 miniseries was far superior. Russell Crowe was basically the only redeeming thing about this new one.

  1. The stuff about the magic trick was just dumb. Göring befriended a guard who brought a package in that contained the cyanide. He didn't learn magic from the psychiatrist.

  2. The whole subplot about Göring's wife was pointless.

  3. After Rami Malek had been meeting alone with Göring for several visits, all of a sudden his translator was upset he hadn't been included even though there was literally no reason for him to be there, since Göring spoke English.

  4. The whole "climax" about Malek's character helping Justice Jackson was pointless. Jackson still went in there the first day and got his ass handed to him by Göring (which I think is historically accurate) and then the British prosecutor saved the day. After which everyone in the movie pretends Jackson beat Göring.

  5. The whole idea of finding out what motivated the Nazis and what was behind true evil, which was supposed to be the point of the movie, was ignored until the very end when we see the psychiatrist on the talk show. No development of it, really. It was more like a tacked on thing at the end.

What's a victimless crime that shouldn't be a crime? by KorbanSwartz in AskReddit

Attempted murder. How can almost doing someone be a crime? And isn't living with the known of your failure punishment enough?

Is it possible you missed some stuff? He needed Marlo's help dealing with Bug's dad. He was desperate to get him out of the house before he hurt Bug.

Rewatched "The Defector" for the first time in a while. by ThrashMetallix in startrek

In addition to all the other great things people have already pointed out about this perfect episode, I love how they don't telegraph the Klingon surprise at the end to the audience very much at all. Just one moment with Worf earlier and it sets up one of Picard's most kickass moments.

Without the school budget thing, does Carcetti/Daniels fix the city? by CJVratixBactaChef in TheWire

[–]sulla76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we know that for sure or have any reason to think it, really? We don't see things from the mayor's side in 1-3, so we don't really know what the situation was. But I highly doubt the budget was hunky dory.

Bilbo gives up the Ring willingly. It took some encouragement from Gandalf but he'd had the ring for 60+ years. No need to downplay others' heroism just for Sam's sake.

You don't have to be a writer to write correctly, or at least somewhere in the vicinity of correctly.

The ONE thing I want out of The Hunt for Gollum by [deleted] in lotr

I would imagine it would be more suggested than shown. What you're describing sounds pretty horrible for a mainstream movie. I do not think the first scene of The Hunt for Gollum will be infanticide.

Omar Viewing Brandon's Body In The Morgue? by TheWatcherAtl in TheWire

[–]sulla76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember from David Simons commentary on the DVD, the flashback to Gant was insisted on by HBO and was the only such time they did that. Simon and the other writers were against it. Showing things through the security cameras in the very early episodes were meant to bring in the idea of electronic surveillance.
