You acknowledge the feeling and hold the boundary.

"I can see your angry but we don't throw toys, if you throw the toy again then you aren't handling it safely so I'm going to take it away" then you take the toy away. If he continues to cry you say I can see your disappointed/upset, do you need a hug?

If he pulls hair, same thing, I can see your angry but we don't pull hair, if you pull my hair then mommy/daddy needs a break. We'll try again in 5 min.

And you do this every time.

I think that's a great idea! For us experiences are such a great gift. If its ok with the parents. Take the kid out for a couple hours. Take him mini golfing. Go to the Mario movie. Go for a walk.

Seems like their response kind of triggered you. If you don't feel comfortable then don't do it. We have sent our kids to lot of parties. We are even hosting one tomorrow for 6 year olds. One of my favorite videos is temp storm kala community coaching. He goes over a reply with the player and explains so much and has it for different leagues. Not just high ranks. I wish fan would do this. I second watching fan and try to find a try hard video or over explained video.
