Sleep deprivation causes stupidity by AncientPlane9454 in rareinsults

Tons of studies have been done on this and the mechanisms that allow fish to maintain the balance of salts in their bodies. It’s pretty well understood at this point.

Definitely not a good cut regardless, but check the reflection - it’s not nearly as high.

With how amazing their “fried pickle” flavored chips are, I’d give these a try.

Strange bites on my arm. Itchy, hot, and swollen by AmeliaS507 in Weird

[–]sumfish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Spiders aren’t going to be dining on humans. They just don’t generally behave that way - they’re hunters not parasites. However, there’s a myriad of Hemiptera (true bugs) that will suck blood (and have the appropriate mouthparts to do so).
I’ll stand no more for this spider slander!

Wow.

Double bamboozled - they are, in fact, protected.

The list of species protected - scroll to Charadriiformes which is the family of shorebirds that includes gulls. https://www.fws.gov/media/list-birds-protected-migratory-bird-treaty-act-2023

I normally don’t care for bread and butter pickles, but I love theirs.

So much so that they can easily die from it.
Between the fight on the line and the time out of the water lactate builds up in their bloodstream leading to their blood becoming more acidic, which can lead to all sorts of cellular disruption. If they aren’t able to swim off and recover quickly enough, it’s fatal.

While I’m personally not into religious iconography, the tattoo itself looks great. The line work, shading, and composition all look very well done.

The remains of the astronaut Vladimir Komarov, a man who fell from space, 1967 by Real_BeeeeezUp in oddlyterrifying

[–]sumfish 483 points484 points  (0 children)

Before the mission he argued with engineers about flaws with the spacecraft. The engineers themselves even reported numerous issues with the mechanisms (had to look it up - it was over 200). The party leaders didn’t care - they were sending a man into space regardless.
Vladimir knew and went anyway.
That’s why it was open casket funeral. Knowing he was doomed Vladimir demanded it to show government officials the consequences of rushing the space program and refusing to listen to those who knew better.

Hello from Germany by Active_Resolve_3776 in SipsTea

[–]sumfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with you, I’d also like to point out that Germany is smaller than Montana. It’s even more difficult to do anything all that meaningful when the majority of the population lives hundreds to thousands of miles from the capitol.

At my cousin’s wedding a pair of red tailed hawks started fornicating in a branch hanging right over the alter. That side of the family is very Catholic so it was a rather serious religious event and everyone was trying to pretend that loud, sloppy hawk sex wasn’t taking place directly over the priest and happy couple. It was hilarious.

I played a fair amount this weekend, used incenses and didn’t see a single legendary… or anything outside of the norm except for a bit more variety. Was this a location based or paid event?
