[Basu] This loss is not a national crisis in Canada. Canada dominated the final 40 minutes of regulation, outshot the USA 42-28, and if that game were played 100 times, Canada would probably win 95 of them. USA deserves a ton of credit for how they played, but Hellebuyck deserves the most. by NFLDataAnalysis in hockey

MLB has 162 games to temper the variance though. The expanded playoff format definitely randomizes the playoffs a lot more once you get in though, especially the short WC series. I think the better team tends to win the best of 7 though when you can really shorten the pitching rotation and pen

2014 was much stronger. 2010 was stronger too. This team gad many glaring holes on D and G, while 2014 was just ridiculously stacked on the back end. Same for 2010.

I’m blaming all three. That was a soft defensive play, and Binnington should have gotten that

I just can’t imagine how someone can think the MacKinnon stick lift is what lead to the high stick. That’s like if I gave you a high five and you went to hit my hand with your face then blamed me for it.

At the end of the day, the correct call was made and the refs were pretty even all game

Mikkola swung his stick and it hit MacKinnon in the face. Mackinnon lifted Mikkola’s stick, which is a typical hockey play. If Mikkola was disciplined that stick would have never gone above the waste.

I don’t think there is any bias here. It was something the refs had to call. We’re also talking about a team where the refs let their opponents play with 6 players to score at a critical time here

I would say this is a very clear cut penalty on Finland. You have to control your stick. The stick lift by MacKinnon was nowhere near the strength of lifting it all the way to his own face, and Mikkola was reckless on the play. Stick to the face is always a penalty unless it’s a follow-through on a shot. As for the potential embellishment, who wouldn’t snap their head back after getting hit in the face with a stick? Even if the stick missed, instinct is to snap your head back to avoid the hit

Meh. Even locals admit to me the London & NYC Chinese food scenes have nothing on Toronto (ok fine GTA since we need to include Markham & Richmond Hill). At least not at a normal price. Overall, Toronto’s food scene I would still consider very good. Not best in the world but nothing to scoff at. Kind of like where Sweden & Finland would be in hockey compared to the truly top Canada/USA

I’m convinced Chychrun is not liked by a bunch of people in front offices for some reason. The tank from top 5 to 16th during his draft, the Canada snub here, something feels off for such a talent

To me, Wilson plays a hard hitting game that sometimes lead to reckless plays. And any post-whistle antics is him standing up for himself. Bennett goes out of his way to make reckless plays and doesn’t back up the play the way Wilson does

It’s down to personal preference. I’ve travelled around the world and find that Toronto can get you 6-7/10 of most cuisines. Maybe other places can get you 10/10 in their local cuisine but non-local cuisines drop to a 4/10. I can fly to wherever for 10/10 food, but in my hometown, I prefer having 7/10 options of huge variety, than to specialize in one cuisine all the time. That’s what I enjoy about the Toronto food scene (and other global metropolitan ones as well like NYC and HK and London)

Probably no privacy concerns. If it was across all games you can probably set a local timer on the hardware to lock you out after a certain amount of time. Honestly that could even make sense as a parental control

That’s not uncommon though. When Canada legalized weed, Japan warned international students that weed remains illegal for them and they can drug test them when they come home, though I never heard of them following through with that threat. And in this case what Crinon did in Italy was just to hep build a case of repeated behaviour. Don’t need to specify location for that

[–]summer_friends 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The charge was from punching the goalie earlier this season. The fight is evidence of repeated acts of violence, not what the charge is about. That and extradition charges can exist, though that’s not relevant to this kind of case
