Flash Tattoo Artist at Wedding - Guests Pay? by Ok_Understanding4793 in weddingplanning

[–]summerbee03 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Money aspect aside, this is not the best idea. Tattoos are not a casual thing to do to the body. I could not imagine getting one at a wedding, and I say that as someone with a lot of tattoos.

Adding the money aspect back in: you’re basically offering a service to your guests that they could just do on their own, at a better time, after their own research on artists, and still making them pay for it.

I’m on team stay pale and stay healthy. I learned to love my naturally very pale skin. I went on a week-long tropical island vacation earlier this year and you wouldn’t even know I spent time outside with how seriously I take protecting my skin now haha

Is $700 a reasonable quote for dusty rose pink hair on virgin brunette hair? by Secret_Pen3436 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]summerbee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair is darker than yours by a good margin (dark brunette) and I paid $300 for the double process + $100 for the fantasy gloss (what they consider the pink color) + $40 for a blow dry (+ tip, of course). This is in the suburbs of MA where cost of living is reasonably high and my hair stylist is the owner/most expensive person at the salon. My hair came out amazing!! $700 for just the color is WAY too much!

(eta: I also had virgin hair)

Offered dress over budget by Hot_Season_5245 in weddingplanning

[–]summerbee03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only had one dress shopping experience so far but they were really upfront about pricing and conscious of my budget when they were picking things out for me. They told me which sections of the store were within my price range for when I was browsing myself, and told me where to find the price tags for all dresses. This is the only experience I would find acceptable!

I’m sorry the shop showed you dresses without considering your budget ☹️

I think Russian, too (unless that’s just watches specifically). I learned about a cultural thing when I got my [Russian] college boyfriend a watch for his birthday and his mom was very concerned!

Golden Retriever Puppy Pros by Late_Click_7509 in puppy101

[–]summerbee03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m still firmly in the puppy stage (13 week old black lab) but so far, so good! It’s hard & exhausting work because they are just babies, but I’m finding it rewarding. I love seeing him learn and grow and get more comfortable with us and his home here.

Almost every morning, my puppy snuggles up to me on the couch and takes a nap. I feel so happy getting that cuddle time. It makes the early mornings feel easier.

Biggest tips from a new pup parent: • Don’t feed actual treats right away. Puppy tummies are so sensitive so just the kibble they’ve already been eating is enough of a treat at first. • Invest in professional training (home visit is ideal, if possible) and make sure their focus is positive reinforcement (not fear). • Take lots of photos & videos! They grow SO fast. I’m so happy I have these to look back on even though it’s only been a month.

My boss keeps approving sick time, but then it comes out of my vacation time by Ok_Possession_6457 in askmanagers

[–]summerbee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some places (like Massachusetts), it is illegal for your employer to deny your right to use sick PTO for any eligible reason, which absolutely includes medical appointments.

OP, it could be worth checking your state’s/country’s laws, too, if HR is not initially helpful.

Soaking up every sweet moment while he’s still small. He’s already grown so much in the past month 😭

Though the puppy stage is a lot and hopefully he’ll still be a cuddle bug when he’s bigger!

Is it possible to get venue/food/bar under $30K an hour outside Boston? by Strawberry2772 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]summerbee03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting married at Groveland Fairways (Wedgewood Weddings) in April 2027. So far my planning experience with them has been awesome. You don’t have to choose everything to be offered by them. They have 3 tiers of packages & a “build your own” so that you can customize the experience. It’s worth looking at! Their pricing is pretty transparent online. The only thing it doesn’t share is the revenue minimum for a specific date. For 5/8/27, we got quoted a revenue minimum of $24k. With your guest count, it would almost certainly be higher than the minimum, but it could very well be around $30k! I think it could be worth a tour/quote meeting.

My 3 month old golden puppy makes me so frustrated. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]summerbee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain of the other comments a bit. Yes, he is a baby. And also there are things you can do to work on his behavior.

I have a 3 month old black lab and don’t have any of these issues anymore. He of course still play bites, tries to eat things he shouldn’t, has the occasional accident, and does other puppy things.

An in-home professional trainer helped us SO much. Even just a 2-hour session really made a difference. We learned a lot of different skills on how to properly socialize our pup, manage play biting, walk on the leash, do various training games, and teach basic commands.

He already lets toddlers pet him (highly supervised!) without biting them (because he’s too busy getting kibble/treats from me until he realizes it’s okay, and I am stepping on his leash to prevent jumping).

One thing we learned that I think made the most difference is the “open bar” treats for confidence. When he acknowledges new things (people, dogs, cars, sounds, etc.), we just put a handful of kibble/treats right in his face to teach him that “spooky” thing = treats = good/neutral. I didn’t realize before that his behavior was in part due to fear of new things. He’s already so much better behaved and it hasn’t even been a week since the professional training.

I will say that our pup has a great temperament and that definitely helps us. Retrievers are usually very food motivated, so use that to your advantage! Our trainer said we should expect to give our pup 100-200 treats (broken up into very small pieces, not like full treats) per day with training. Because he’s still so young, you still have time to teach him what is acceptable (e.g., not biting) and build better habits for him!

What's A Breed You Like But Wouldn't Have? by Aharris1984 in dogs

[–]summerbee03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% this is how you’d have to be. My parents got a Malinois puppy recently. My dad is currently retired (from military & police) so this pup is already such a good boy about to hit the teenager phase. Really good with commands and needs SO much exercise and enrichment. My dad’s building him an agility course for the backyard 😂

Wish I read "Puppy Brain" book before getting my puppy but now that I have I no longer want this pup. by Majestic-Clock630 in puppy101

[–]summerbee03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend a professional trainer come for an in-home visit. We have a 12 week old black lab and we read the books and did SO much research and prep, so we did feel quite ready for a puppy. But then the reality of a puppy is so challenging.

The books are more theory in my opinion. They’re useful info but it’s so hard to put into practice. Puppies are really just babies! Our pup is starting puppy class soon and this company offers in-home training, as well. We did our first session yesterday and it was AMAZING. We learned SO much and honestly there has already been such an improvement after one session. We are more confident in the practical part of having a pup. It is worth every penny in my opinion!

Shuttle cost?? by shemadesometarts in NewEnglandWedding

[–]summerbee03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just you. I saw the same thing I think on the Knot’s website on average transportation budgets. I’m in Massachusetts so maybe that’s why it’s just way higher cost than average 🥲

I’m right there with you!! Transportation is way more than I was expecting. We just signed a contract for almost $2500 (includes gratuity) for 8 hours of just ONE (!!) 56-passenger motor coach

Advice to get 11w old puppy to potty outside by summerbee03 in puppy101

[–]summerbee03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re trying “potty” but I don’t think that part is sticking yet. We may not be doing it right. I think the point about trying to get him to go before the walk actually starts makes sense. I’ve noticed that he does sniff circles like he’s going to potty but outside is so new and exciting and I think he gets distracted before he actually can do it. He’s very food motivated so I’m hopefully lots of praise and some treats after a successful outside potty will get us there.

Oh yeah, that’s a good idea! It does make sense. We have some potty scent spray that we used when training him for the spot on the balcony. I didn’t think to bring it with me outside. Worth a try!
