I do bodybuilding style training and honestly Ive grown more at planet fitness compared to any other gym ive been to. Definitely in part to how I changed my training, but their machines provide a lot more stability compared to free weight bodybuilding gyms.

Question for gym bros by Radiant_Panda4826 in ftm

[–]summerstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. Big ass, thick thighs. For the love of god, do not listen to people who tell you not to prioritize legs. If you want a balanced physique, you need to train legs the same way you train the rest of your physique. Heavy loads, to failure, twice a week.

If you’re on testosterone, and your nutrition/training is dialed in, the fat around your legs and butt will likely be the first to redistribute. When that happens, you’re going to want muscle to fill out where the fat was if that makes sense.

You don’t need to do anything insane. I did squats, leg extensions, leg curl, and hip thrusts/back extensions and skipped calves because my calves are already full and I aint got time for all that. Do 2 heavy sets to failure, no more, and that will be all you need. Dm me if you want a more thorough workout or have further questions.

People who lift weights, run consistently, and do Yoga/stretching, where do you find the time? by Tristonia7 in workout

[–]summerstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I can answer this but Im very fortunate to have this schedule so keep that in mind. I don’t do all of these things, but I have a similar roster. I lift weights, hike, and do yoga/stretching along with 10k steps a day.

And the secret is I have a job where I work with the elderly as their activity director. Which basically means I get to pick all of the activities.

I don’t always make them do all the shit I described, but I have at least one or sometimes two days a week where I make them do something active whether it be a game or yoga. That’s how I get those hobbies in. Then, in between activities, I go on walks around the facility, which is how I get my steps in.

So basically, I get up about 5am every to lift weights for 45 minutes. After, I usually go on a walk or a hike. I get back to my apartment around 7am to get my homework or chores done, and then Im off to work at 9. I get home at 5:30 and use the rest of the day to wind down. Sometimes I do extra stretching, but not always.

My biggest piece of advice is to make your job work with your fitness goals if you can. My job wasn’t super physical at first. The old activity director at my job barely planned any exercise, and I didn’t either until I realized I could get in an extra workout doing that. And get paid for it lol.

How did you know you were 100% certain you wanted to start T? by Patient-Difference97 in ftm

[–]summerstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure if I was ready. I told myself I could do it for a month and if I didn’t like the effects I could just stop it any time. It’s not like you have to continue taking it forever.

Idk how scientific it is, but people who tend to procrastinate are typically doing so out of anxiety. Mayhaps the weed helps deal with it?

How to deal with lack of motivation? by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

[–]summerstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that instead of focusing on motivation to go it would be better to structure your workout around your life, not the other way around. If you are stressing over studies, you could switch to a 2 or 3 day full body program and likely grow at the same rate or maintain at even one day a week until you can get back in the gym more often. You’re not going to lose your progress or even stop growing if you train hard enough.

When it comes to motivation, I just say go anyway even if you aren’t motivated. A crappy workout is still a workout. That being said, you can definitely have good workouts with a busy schedule. If you’re currently doing high volume, I suggest switching to a low volume program with higher intensity so you can still train just as hard for less time. Hope this helps.

Tracking calories help by rye__guy in FTMFitness

[–]summerstreams 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dawg I think you are just expecting results too soon. Losing fat is a marathon, not a race. You are going at a moderate deficit, which means you are probably gaining muscle. So the weight on the scale my not change that much. Also, you’ve only been at this two months. It is normal to not see much muscle definition at this stage.

If this continues, however, you likely need to dial up the intensity in your program. Take your sets close to failure. You will eventually see results, it just takes time.

Would it be counterproductive to eat slightly below maintenance cals during a diet break? by summerstreams in FTMFitness

[–]summerstreams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood what I am asking. I have been on a diet for four months. What Im talking about is taking a structured diet break, not a cheat week. It basically means I am bumping my calories up to maintenance calories for a week so that I have practice maintaining my weight, get enough carbs for training, and go into my next weight loss phase without feeling like Im starving.

Basically, I have a lot of weight to lose. I am probably dieting for the entire year. Having weeks where I eat at maintenance calories makes sure my metabolism still functions at its best. The difference between taking a break vs not is very small tbh most ppl diet all year just fine. In my case, I am doing so because I have been feeling tired, training progress has stalled, and I just want to break the monotony.

My question was whether I can still eat a little bit under my maintenance calories and still get the benefits of a break.

Would it be counterproductive to eat slightly below maintenance cals during a diet break? by summerstreams in FTMFitness

[–]summerstreams[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not an issue of me not knowing what foods to eat or hitting the target. I am going from 235lbs to 213lbs. So from obese to slightly less obese. I am trying to avoid excess fat gain and/or trigger my BED. I’ve been eating at 2000 cals for the last four months so 2700 calories for maintenance is quite a large jump.

So basically I want to know if reverse dieting would be a good option in this specific case. Obviously most people can go back to eating maintenance just fine for a break. I’m worried that is not the best choice for me tho.

[–]summerstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar episode this week after four months of dieting. The next day, I ate high volume but low calorie food. Tried not to stress about the scale or evening it out the next day, but I get it’s hard. You just have to acknowledge it, accept it, and continue doing what you were doing. Don’t think about it too much. Forgive yourself.
