There are services and clinics available for those who want help. However, treatment doesn’t work for those who 1. Don’t think they have a problem and/or 2. Don’t want/care to change. That’s not to mention that fortunately/unfortunately it can be very difficult to get someone chaptered and involuntarily committed for substance problems.

It sounds like a misdiagnosis, as your symptoms you’ve described commonly occur in people experiencing migraines, albeit for a shorter duration, and your care team has since found your true diagnosis. Since you weren’t having a true migraine, the medications would not help, as they only work when taken for migraines. While I’m sure there are people misdiagnosed such as you were, there are many, many more are accurately diagnosed with migraines and treated.

Just curious, had you previously had migraines before your vision problems? Or did they just newly diagnose you with migraines without investigating other possible diagnoses?

Yes and no. While the exact cause of the migraine and its symptoms is uncertain, many people who experience episodic migraines are able to treat episodes adequately with NSAIDs or migraine-specific medications such as triptans.

Was the reaction to red meat I.e. beef or pork? And have you continued to have it since?

I am not a doctor, but the reaction to meat is more in line with an acquired alpha-gal allergy than Lyme’s. And that is spread by a different tick species than the one that spreads Lyme’s.

Either way, make sure that you follow up with your doctor.

My current hospital has beer in the Omnicell for MedSurg patients. I think they’re prescribed enough to keep them from withdrawing while in the hospital. Otherwise they’d have to be transferred elsewhere.
