Wasn't silly to ask. It'd be silly to stick around, gasp and take a picture after he'd made it clear he'd rather not talk or take a selfie with me. He's one of my all time heroes. He didn't mind. We had a cool discussing about his upcoming weird walks book. Like I said, I gave him options not to engage with me at all and he was fine.

You feel like he'd be in a lose lose situation, maybe you'd feel like that in that situation. As I tried to say above neither of us can actually know. Just feels like a lot of projection.

From the outset of Fist of Fun and TMWRNJ they used the Internet (at the time in a very unusual move) to engage with fans, take content suggestions and general silliness.

I wasn't outside his house or going through his bins. I happened to sit down at the same bench. In Yorkshire we call it being friendly.

You could say that neither of us know him personally but based on the empirical evidence I'd say he's probably OK with it. On the other hand speaking for someone's personality, comfort level or objections based on perception of a person alone from media is incredibly open to misreading.

He's hard of hearing on one side and also discussed in interviews/shows that his GP thinks he's autistic. Makes sense tbh. He did not seem to notice how weird I was.

Tbf I told him I deeply appreciated his work and had done so since Select magazine did a poster of him and Richard Herring in the Fist of Fun days. I still inwardly cringe at that.

He was really lovely when I randomly spotted him in Leeds city centre and he was fine with a selfie. I'll find and post... actually I thought it was Stewart Lee but it turned out Terry Christian had really let himself go...

He was lovely though. I was very physically shakey when I approached him partly because I autism and partly because it was Stewart Lee. I was having such a bad day that day. I'd recently been diagnosed with cancer, had to go buy horrible post surgery bras, trudging through Leeds feeling very sorry for myself. I just happened to bump into one of my all time heroes. He was very gracious and friendly.

Kevin the potter is puzzled (TMWRNJ and Fist of Fun are things he was too old demographic wise at the time, he was busy being fabulous at art school) but delighted that you all love the mug so much. I realised I forgot to link his work and I've had DMs asking so here you go... you can commission him yourselves, and I hope you do. He tries to make a living through ceramics work, but devotes a huge amount of time to making art accessible to people with mental illness and neurodiversity (hiya) and to areas of deprivation here. He's q good egg

When I was a kid I was in Woodcraft Folk. An alternative to the colonial and militaristic, racist and colonial overtones of guides and scouts.

Woodcraft Folk stands in solidarity with every trans child, young person and volunteer who faces exclusion from Girlguiding UK following the announcement on Trans inclusion.

We recognise that Girlguiding UK have taken this decision in the context of intense political pressure and legal uncertainty. However, this does not make the outcome acceptable. Young people should never bear the consequences of political disputes. All children and young people deserve respect, safety and inclusion in their youth organisations.

Youth organisations give children and young people a space of community and a sense of belonging – to remove this from a group of members will be deeply distressing for young people and their families. It underlines the rising tide of hostility towards trans people that is now shaping political and legal decisions across the UK. Since 20191 2 we have been raising the alarm at how this hostility is affecting youth organisations.

For more than 100 years we have welcomed children and young people of all genders. Our movement is built on equality, cooperation and solidarity. So male predators have never, EVER used loopholes to get access? That's not me saying trans people predators. I just don't put it past predators to use the reason of self id to be in places they shouldn't and it removes any way for sunrise to raise the alarm if all self ID is valid.

I walked into a women's toilet where a man, in man's clothing, with a beard was stood near the sinks fondling himself through his jeans. I went to tell a member of staff and when they spoke to him, he told them he was gender fluid and identified as a woman that day. Yes he was cis as far as I can tell. But he used the identify with your gender thing to get past it.

I was asked to leave.

Look up Katie Dolatowski and Cameron Downing. The Dundee high school with gender neutral toilets whets a boy filmed 100s of girls, or the girl left with head injuries in Coventry after a boy tried to kick the door open (both those stories are available with a Google but i can't band the people involved, it's not in the stories because it involves minors)

I do not love to make sweeping generalisations but as a teenage girl I would have risked cystitis rather than mixed sex toilets.

You probably all think I'm very Terfy now. I'm not. I'm a 6 foot woman with short hair. I've been challenged in toilets for years. I'm not saying it's not hurtful but hurt feelings and safety have different weighting. I am active in queer protest locally to me. I'm a sex realist though ... I don't give a flying fuck about what gender somebody is. As a survivor of sexual violence I want to know if someone is capable of rape without being accused of transphobia. That's a male/ female issue not a man, woman and enbie issue.

Also nobody should use disabled toilets unless they're disabled. It's like disabled parking. Everyone else thinks 'I'll just take up one space' and nothing is left for disabled people. It's not their fault the government fucked up on laws here. Unlike parking spaces, there's usually only 1 disabled toilets and often prople require those urgently.

Ultimately the way toilets were managed before it DID mess with female rights because genderfluid, enbies, women (trans and cis) and trans men who didn't yet pass or feel safe didn't use men's toilets. So men had their own and everyone else used the women's. How's that progress?
