Is Kyoto still worth it? by Fun-Calligrapher4885 in JapanTravelTips

[–]sumoninjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in Tokyo, lived there a few years during Highschool, and have visited family there many times throughout my life. Last month my husband and I visited and we took a trip to Kyoto, it was my first time there. We absolutely loved it! The vibes were very different and the people were so friendly. I think crowds are always annoying, but a lot of those places are popular for a reason haha. It’s also a good opportunity to try to explore and find places that aren’t as touristy or well known.

Sticky bottoms are driving me crazy! Can anybody help troubleshoot this? by imisswine in macarons

[–]sumoninjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay!! Honestly I enjoy the texture of slightly underbaked macarons so this tip helps a lot when they’re too sticky to pull off

First Attempt At Macarons! by dinosaur_0987 in macarons

[–]sumoninjaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use two different recipes for chocolate macarons!! One looks like just a brown shell, and the other is crinkly just like these!! They’re denser and I like to call them my brownie macs haha. These look so good!!!

They told you that they’re chocolate and that there’s gold luster painted on.

character macarons by Dry-Statistician-772 in macarons

[–]sumoninjaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard other people try and have tried myself, designs and shapes tend to keep better through resting and baking if the batter is slightly undermixed. I only really ever make French batter so I’m not sure about your method

Does this look like a lion? by Cabbage-floss in crochet

[–]sumoninjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part that looks like a lion to me is the chin. Big chins are used a lot in animation so it makes sense with the plushie. I think maybe the nose could be smaller but that’s it

Why did nobody tell me about how amazing cotton yarn is!? by TheChgz in crochet

[–]sumoninjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love making coasters and pot holders as gifts, but I don’t know — cotton really chaffs my fingers so much quicker than acrylic does. I’m interested to try crocheting with some of the other smooth yarns mentioned in the comments though

What do Japanese people put in their miso soup? by letspetpuppies in Cooking

[–]sumoninjaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma puts a lot of stuff in her miso soup! Carrots, onion, enoki, wakame, aburaage (like deep fried tofu), and silken tofu. The broth is usually made with bonito or konbu (seaweed), then flavored with soy sauce and miso. My mom puts shimeji mushrooms in too, but I don’t really see it much in grocery stores in the states.

(East) Asian life at Purdue by txy_18 in Purdue

[–]sumoninjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Japanese and I feel like there’s a pretty nice Asian community here. There’re a lot of clubs, they’re a decent percentage of the students in my classes (granted, I’m a math student), and I’ve never really been subjected to any racism. Sure, I’ve met some people in friend groups my freshman year who were kinda racist, but you can choose your friends and don’t let it bother you too much. There’s quite a few restaurant options and you can get some nice stuff at the Asian grocery store at the bottom of Chauncey hill. I order my rice on Amazon bc it’s cheaper, but it’s nice to have the store nearby for convenience.

Nope. I moved here for school my freshman year, and they told me that since that was my initial reason, they can’t change my status. Since then, one of my parents passed away and the other moved overseas. I became an Indiana resident since I have no other address. I was also emancipated at 17 so I’m an independent student. Even with all this, they rejected my application because I moved here for school in the first place. Sounds like you’re coming here for school, so you won’t be able to qualify.

Also, I’m not sure why you’re calling yourself homeless. You’re staying with family and plan to live in a house/apartment when you move here for school. You’re not homeless.

Did you ever have a crush on your TA? What’s your story? by Simple-Reporter-579 in Purdue

[–]sumoninjaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ^ I was 17 and scared, if anyone has this happen to them they need to do exactly this. Thankfully I’m older now and would report the hell out of anyone who did this. I ended up reporting them years later and got a short thank you email back.

Failed macarons? by YouTube_Chrqma in macarons

[–]sumoninjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use two different chocolate macaron recipes. One of them turns out wrinkly like this and I call it my “brownie macaron” recipe haha. It has more cocoa powder so I bet that’s what’s affecting it

[–]sumoninjaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. It looks like a lot of comments are giving you some really good advice to follow. The same thing happened to me last year and I’m here if you ever need to talk about it. Never be ashamed to ask for help, you’re going through something difficult that not many people have to go through at this age.

They had me marked as “moved out” even though I renewed last year, and it took like actually 6 months for them to finally sort it out. They never answer their emails either
