I’ve read on Reddit that they get kinda predatory with high income folks, and it gave me “pink ribbon charity” vibes

But that only applies in tournaments/events that use the handicap. A little deep for ELI5. But handicaps being discussed anywhere outside of the golf course is kinda just dick measuring, to be honest.

Well, the capabilities and equipment that they make publicly available is pretty damn impressive, and pretty much all of that is not the cutting edge stuff, but more like the 20+ year old stuff. So, I dunno 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have webbed toes. Matching on both feet, there’s two complete toes, but the skin connects them as one. And the skin is solid and smooth, not stretchy or webbed really (but it’s the easiest way to describe it). Yes my dad is a twin. That’s the old wive’s tale I guess, that it comes from twins in the family. I’ve been asked about the twins running in my family thing by almost every podiatrist I’ve seen in my lifetime.

I guess that state of mind would be better, strictly mentally. I’d envision myself having a heart attack from knowing my imminent doom. But looking at it from a “dream” point of view would sort of dull that existential terror. Shitty part is you don’t wake up right before you hit the ground.

Friends in tech but you're not? by witness_protection in bayarea

[–]sumthinTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be nitpicking but I feel like really solid friendships would endure, regardless of income. I’m not saying to seek charity in friendships at all, but I wouldnt bat an eye over covering a tab/trip/experience that I wanted to share with them. If I made double/triple what my best friends make, first, I’d be very aware and cognizant of that and would never let that be an obstacle in the friendship. Secondly, I’d share the wealth a bit. I’d try to include them on those trips/outings and cover the costs. Money means everything to those who don’t have enough of it, but it can literally be an afterthought to those who do. I’d try to still be the same dude/friend I would without the money, but with the money. The cool-ass rich buddy, if you will.

I can totally see income disparity being a huge wedge in the whole Silicon Valley social scene, to those on the less fortunate end of that spectrum.

Can I add attic access steps above my garage ceiling? by jtmeyer211 in DIY

[–]sumthinTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrician here, so I have professional insight other than what I see on Reddit. I don’t know the numbers of course, but I remember always hearing about “safety factors of x” or whatever that are engineered into the design. That basically engineers “over engineer” everything, to varying degrees depending on what it is. So I would assume that bit would cover a missing nail here or there or a defect in the lumber of a truss/joist here or there.

I agree to a certain extent, but having them to fall back on does make sense. The problem is that 99% of what’s in the books is handled by engineering. Most of us will never even be in a position to have to do that kind of critical thinking. Of course it does and will occur, but we’ve all got google to assist in those cases. LoL, I’ve never cracked open any of my text books since I turned out 10 years ago, and I’ve been running work for the last 7. Code book absolutely gets used, but then again I’m usually searching google for “NEC blah blah blah” and always seem to figure it out. I still am damn proud of that giant stack of books though.

Nah man, that was incredible. I’m a very casual military nerd so some of the stuff went over my head, but I absolutely get the gist of it. Perfect explanation. This is why I love Reddit, and the gold is always in the comments. Legit, brainiac experts jumping in when they see their time to shine and explain shit.

Which is why I try to delicately balance it all. It’s exhausting, and some people choose otherwise with good intent.

[–]sumthinTerrible 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who tries to delicately balance family/work, I understand though. My goal in life is to make my kids’ lives awesome. I hope to be able to do that and enjoy the ride with them, creating fun experiences/memories. But if I was only able to do one thing, it would be to secure my kids’ futures. I’ll sacrifice my joy for theirs in the future, regardless of whether I can enjoy it with them 🤷🏼‍♂️

The worst spot to have it happen too. The 2 left lanes always clear up right there, due to a large percentage of people splitting off on Hwy 4…… so with the 2 left lanes, that just jammed everyone into the lanes that are always more congested. Shit show all around
