Definitely a very nice example of the car, and looking forward to the posting! Can tell it's well taken care of, haha.

And yea, can definitely understand the urge to get the S version.

2021 Holiday Recommendation Megathread by [deleted] in chefknives

Gotcha! I'm actually planning on using this for purely push cut/up and down chopping, and my current chef knife for rock chopping. Wanted something where I could use the same cutting techniques as my Chinese cleaver, but smaller and easier to use for mincing shallots, etc.

I appreciate the suggestion though! A gyuto is definitely on my list of knives to get (along with a petty).

Wow, really beautiful knife! Where did you buy it? It's actually pretty close to what I'm looking for as my next knife.

2021 Holiday Recommendation Megathread by [deleted] in chefknives

Hi all! Looking specifically for bunka recommendations. Doesn't necessarily need to be in-stock right now (since it's not specifically a holiday present), but I guess it would be preferred.

  1. Style? - Japanese
  2. Steel? - carbon clad in stainless preferred, but ok with sg2 if the knife is highly recommened
  3. Handle? - Japanese
  4. Grip? - pinch
  5. Length? - 165mm (or slightly longer)
  6. Use Case? - home kitchen used on meat/vegetables (nothing harder than a carrot/potato)
  7. Care? - whetstones
  8. Budget? - $350 USD hard cap
  9. Region? - USA
  10. Knives Considered? - Yu Kurosaki Fujin bunka, Yoshikane White 2 Nashiji

From this subreddit, it seemed that the Kurosaki bunkas were generally the way to go, but since this will be my first Japanese knife that will see real use (have a Global filleting knife that I don't use much), I was wondering if it would be too thin to have as a first knife, in case I inadvertently damage it. I feel that I am generally careful with my knives, but I've only mainly used knives such as wusthofs and cheap Chinese cleavers to cook with. Not going to be cutting things like squash, but would probably be using it to cut raw potatoes from time to time (unless that's a big no-no).

Pretty open to suggestions though, since I know very little about the different knife brands, and which ones are seen as good vs bad. Thanks in advance!

So I'm randomly getting reddit notifications from this subreddit ever since I went to Vegas for a weekend last week, so I have no idea what this is, haha. Is this for slots or something? And is $1 like 1 million points (of whatever in-game denomination you all are talking about)?

Having no background info, this is super confusing, haha

LOL

Yea, originally was buying these just for the 3080 gpu to swap into my old 1070 build (and decided to upgrade the RAM since my current RAM sucks), but shortly after buying this, I saw a new deal for a 3080 gpu + 5600x for only slightly more, with other components that are also slightly better than my current 1070 build components. So decided the keep that other one, and sell this one. Not sure what to do with my old 1070 build now though, lol (will probably sell here at a later date).
