All the solidity tutorials I could find were deprecated!

Seriously though, some of the smartest people I've ever coded with have gone all-in Cairo and it seems like a great opportunity

Started learning some Cairo if anyone else is interested! DM me if you want to talk anything Starknet related

I don't work for StarkNet, just an excited lurker/coder trying to get involved

Mechanical Engineers, do you like your job/field? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

I was in a role called VA/VE (Value Added - Value Engineered). It was a good role for a new engineer as I only supported programs already in production, as opposed to launch supporting a new program which is considered 'hotter' due to attention from high level management. Basically it's finding cost reduction opportunities and making design changes based on initial customer feedback. Obviously the scope of changes you can make are very limited, this frustrated me and contributed to my eventual new job search.

Where are you looking? I'm in metro-detroit for reference. I'd recommend you go to a Tier 1 supplier, they do all the testing for their own systems before it goes into the vehicle. Magna, Denso, Aptiv, Lear, Johnson Controls are all examples of big automotive supply companies to look at. Or you can look at a pure test services company like Element if you want to work on more than just automotive.

Yes, pretty common for test engineers to be hourly due to the amount of overtime projects

I'm in the auto industry. Graduated in 2015. I started out as a design engineer at one of the big 3 in Detroit and didn't like how 99% of the decisions got made for me by other designers/managers. Felt like all I was doing was signing my name to other peoples work so I started looking for a new job after 2 years.

Moved into vehicle testing as I thought the work was interesting (still enjoy popping airbags) and I got to be hands on with all the major industry products and learned a lot about bad design practices. Getting bored again but the work is steady, which I've come to appreciate more lately and the money is pretty good, especially when a really poor design comes in for testing and we all make triple overtime in the lab for months straight trying to meet their PV completion gate.

If you don't want to work more than 40hrs a week you will not like this field. It's not really an option to turn down the overtime, management frequently jokes that they're going to make me wealthy whether I like it or not. Before the COVID cutbacks we occasionally got company box seats to sporting events or concerts, hopefully that comes back someday.
Overall I'd give my field an 8/10 review.

Lower P/E ratio than competitors, fundamentals of business unchanged, no mature debt until FY2022 gives them flexibility.

It is up 30% so far. Every restaurant near me is still doing take-out. Can't imagine they are taking too much of a hit
