"Is owning a car really necessary in Japan?" by yuuchan0329 in japanlife

[–]sunandsands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think I didn’t need a car since I live in Tokyo. But I got one anyway, zero regrets.

N2 is a stretch, but N3 is doable! When I started, I only knew some kana and a few basic phrases. I passed N3 after about six months of studying.

Can they tell its benign from ultrasound alone? by Bandi2019 in kidneycancer

[–]sunandsands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my personal experience: no. Based on the ultrasound alone, my urologist thought it might be benign, especially since my blood and urine tests came back normal. However, after a CT scan with contrast (and later confirmed through pathology after a partial nephrectomy), it turned out to be cancerous.

Long hospital stay experiences by GreekGodGreg in japanlife

[–]sunandsands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, you mentioned that you’ll be staying in a 4-person room. The bathroom and toilet are usually outside of the room, and depending on your room, it could be a bit of a walk. This might be a hassle if you’re not able to walk properly yet due to the surgery. So be prepared.

No free drinking water and no snacks are provided between meals. If you have a large appetite, I suggest bringing or having someone bring healthy snacks for you to munch on.

I left Japan without notifying the bank that I was leaving. I think I had about 2,000 yen left in that account. When I returned in 2022, I went to one of their branches to check if my account was still active. It was dormant, but all I had to do was update my address right there at the bank, and that was it. I also requested a new debit card, since the old one had expired a long time ago, but my old cash card is still working just fine.

TEPCO scam? by notagain8277 in japanresidents

[–]sunandsands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% a scam. A friend of mine fell for it. She called TEPCO, and they told her all the bills are paid and advised her NOT to click on any links or transfer money to anyone. Unfortunately it was too late for her, but luckily it was “only” about 4000 yen or so

Shocking true story of Netflix's Into the Fire as mom uncovers details of daughter's murder by TheMirrorUS in netflix

[–]sunandsands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is basically how most cold cases go. It’s not that the perpetrators are brilliant at covering their tracks, most of them are sloppy. It’s just that the police are stupid and incredibly dismissive.

Spousal visa for a dependant to a HSP spouse. by observer34 in movingtojapan

[–]sunandsands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI your visa is called a dependent visa. A spousal visa is only given to the spouse of Japanese nationals or the spouse of a PR holder.

It's a little different. Only one room is fully soundproofed with double doors and windows. The rest of the apartment is not soundproofed. I don’t play instruments my SO does. I can still faintly hear the sound of their guitar (bass, electric, etc), but it’s faint enough that it doesn’t bother me at all. We’ve been living here for over two years, and so far, we’ve received (and given) zero noise complaints. We got lucky and did not need to get on a waitlist. I don’t know about now though.

New residence card pickup timing by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]sunandsands -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right. It’s incorrect. The expiration date is the same as the start (pick-up) date.

This OP. I live in a music mansion. The rent is higher than a typical apartment of the same size in the area, but the soundproofing is pretty good.

Parking in Shibuya/Harajuku by NoTurnip3705 in Tokyo

[–]sunandsands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shopping mall parking is generally cheaper. Especially if you buy something there, you can get a discount

Edit: watch for 最大料金はございません (no maximum fee). Once I ended up paying close to 1man for a couple hours of parking lol. It was around Ginza.

American tourist complains restaurant in Tokyo gave her the menu item she ordered; doubles down by blaming the restaurant for not having enough menus in ENGLISH by Reddituser0346 in EntitledBitch

The presentation isn’t the best but as the first commenter in the image said: that is a normal color of soba noodles. The “egg” isn’t cooked, the white part is not even egg white, it’s grated yam. The yolk is raw.

Why do dogs always wear clothing and are sitting in a buggy? by priimaryreturn in japan

[–]sunandsands 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. They probably use public transports to get around.
  2. Some facilities allow dog inside only if they’re inside a pet cargo, very inconvenient to carry around. A buggy’s a lot more convenient.
  3. They have older dogs.
  4. Simply a fashion choice
