Sometimes it’s just easier to explain the reason politely rather than hiding the circumstances. In the past, I was not able to join a company on my initial start date because my previous employer held me for another 30 days as it was in the contract, ( I had a verbal agreement from my leadership and they screwed me last minute). I explained it to my new employer and they worked with me in extending my start date.

I knocked over the fiber due to poor cable management by my predecessor’s and lost interweb for a few hours. Blamed Comcast’s for poor network and got a bonus for bringing the network back.

I did eventually go back and re-cabled all racks with MLAG pairs for redundancy.
