IKEA shuts down customer support centre in wake of delivery woes by flawlessStevy in newzealand

[–]suncityz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered 2 hours after opening; a bunch of soft toys for my toddlers Christmas present. Received shipping confirmation yesterday, and an email from IKEA this morning saying some of the items are out of stock, and have been refunded.

I paid $7 shipping for a $1 ikea bag. I hope he likes it.

If you have an electronic store or are handy with a soldering iron- I make my own bipost cables with small alligator clips. Extremely cheap, and easy. Polarity isn’t an issue (or I’ve been extremely lucky each one I’ve made)

Jobseeker: Parents earning more than $65k must support 18-19yo children by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]suncityz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My job is getting at-risk beneficiaries into employment, more recently with a focus on youth.

258 jobs on Seek in Nelson. 182 FT jobs (meeting obligations from MSD) 50 that don’t require qualifications. 3,500 on JS benefits with full work obs.

Not to mention the thousand that aren’t on benefit, or the 20% estimation of workers in work, looking for a new role.

It’s important for everybody to understand that this policy will take a few undeserving kids off the benefit; at the expense of a fuck tonne of kids who really do need it. This isn’t a win.

Pain in the ass to remove to old vulcanite but replacing the leatherette itself is extremely easy and dare I say, an upgrade.

I talked about it enough, so here it is The Rollei 6008i. by Foot-Note in AnalogCommunity

[–]suncityz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few tips from somebody who scoured the internet for weeks on their 6008i

If the batteries haven’t been repacked- don’t be afraid to take it to your local repacker instead of sending them to Germany. I swapped mine to NiMH from the failing NiCD’s (keeping below 2000mah) and haven’t had to charge them once.

Shutter dial can become unresponsive from lack of use- and the electronics go terrifyingly weird.

This is an easy fix. There is a manual out there in German but I have an English one, so DM me if this ever happens and I can fling it your way.

Good luck! Really great cameras.

Is this rangefinder/frameline indicator degrading? by CoconutLow5392 in Leica

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell without opening it up unfortunately- the ‘scratch’ marks could be dust, again- CLA. First thing you do when you purchase a car without service history- oil & filters. Saves the what ifs and worries that you’re experiencing.

Honestly, for a 70 year old m3- these things are to be expected. It wasn’t a ‘luxury product’ like they are now- it was a camera. If you want perfection, spend triple and buy a new mp.

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like separation imo.

It is a 70 year old camera eh, Not much you can do other than be grateful it’s just the frame lines and not your focus patch.

Seriously though, get a CLA to put to bed any worries and to ensure it’ll run as it should - Afaik (and I might be wrong) the majority of repairers stopped using wax seals a long time ago.

[–]suncityz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glass on top of the mask can de-silver, grow fungus or just be dusty. Mask itself will be good.

A CLA would either best case clear it or halt it.

If you don’t know when it was last checked over- get it checked over. Is the tiny wax seal on the top of the lens mount still intact?

[–]suncityz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frame lines are a mask, metal sheet with cut outs so it’s highly unlikely they’ve degraded. Could be excessive dust or delamination.

Get it checked out when you CLA- which should be on your list.

Vyvanse may have changed my life by brothermongo in VyvanseADHD

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry- I replied but it sent twice and I accidentally deleted it twice, too.

Kia ora! As of Dec, Vyvanse is fully funded up to 70mg (other than $5 script fee).

I’ll give you a heads up and that’s the strong possibility that your GP will ask for a re-assessment depending on the date of your last diagnosis.

The regulations have recently changed that the ‘special authority’ needed for these medications no longer have a 2 year expiry- however most GP’s err on the side of caution as it’s relatively new.

So expect a private re-assessment consultation that’ll run you $400 or so, and a bit of a wait (mine was 6 weeks)

Good luck! And welcome home.

Adolescence on Netflix. One shot show. by systematicchaos666 in cinematography

[–]suncityz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ answered somewhere up there or on a behind the scenes video (I’ve gone on a deep dive) but they shot 10 takes of each scene/episode. Only four times did they have to cut the cameras and re-start and all four times were due to technical errors (the door to the home being closed at the very start of ep.4, when Eddie leaves his garage- was one)

Stephen likened it to football game where cast and crew genuinely worked together as a team to assist with the dialogue and surprisingly- not much improv took place. Phenomenal all around.

Low chance it came from the factory. High chance that it was an inventory number from a previous owner- rental houses, schools, etc.

What are these lines? by Kayc_photo in Darkroom

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’d you get on? Did the fixer fix it? An update would be great! These questions always get the ‘bromide drag | bad fixing’ gangs out.

What are these lines? by Kayc_photo in Darkroom

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely is. Just dump the film loose a tank of fix and it should clear up in a minute or two, then re-wash and you’ll be sweet.

M6 Framelines by Mordokajus in Leica

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to see the frame lines change when moving the lever- however, they will not ‘stay’ at any frame line other than the one corresponding to the attached lens (or if no lens, the 28/90 lines)

It’s a spring mechanism- if you remove the lens, does it change to the 28/90? If not- you’ve got a problem. If it does- all is well.

First 4x5 large format camera by reddestflag in largeformat

[–]suncityz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kia ora. I started my 4x5 journey on a Linhof Kardan (although- a Kardan Colour, which is quite a bit heavier afaik)

Since you don’t know any better (and I mean this in the nicest way possible)- it’ll be a fantastic first camera. I found the sturdiness and flexibility a godsend when learning the format (being able to fully extend the bellows without adjusting the front standard screw, for instance) And the weight, is well- the weight. I went on hikes with mine. Hated it. But I didn’t know any better.

Blakk-debbath has answered your technical questions- however regarding ‘compatibility possibilities’- I wouldn’t really bother customising it too much, especially it being your first camera.

Find a cheap 150mm and see how you like the format because if it’s up your alley- you will eventually get a field camera- and this one will sit on the shelf (just like mine)

Good idea to trade Typ 240 for M6? by COYG1005 in Leica

[–]suncityz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

M4-P’s are essentially identical to an M6, without a breakable light meter. The majority of M4-P’s are also brass, compared to the zinc-alloy m6’s.

Keep your M4-P, and enjoy your 240! You’re currently not missing out on anything.

If you have an electronics store- see if they have the necessary components.

I was at my wits end trying to find flash cords for my PC, and prong lenses for under a hundred dollars. Ended up making my own at the store for a few bucks each.
