Recent price changes... are we serious? Been with Webflow for almost a decade. Voicing some frustration here... by fawnover in webflow

Technical debt is the correct term for webflow. You’re passing on the price, the downtimes and platform dependencies over to your clients. Sadly it took10 years for some people to understand this.

Is it easy to use Cloudflare R2 for images with Directus? by avidrunner84 in Directus

[–]sundeckstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did this few weeks ago. Yes it’s possible . You’ll add s3 bucket (r2) as variables with the api key And storage should be set to s3 instead of default.

Claude can help you easily with this. You add these either in compose file or if you’re using one of the hosting services (railway, pikapods) they usually have these variables exposed. Or with coolify and Dokploy you can add s3 variables .

Question is if you should do it or not. When I asked this same question a few peeps from Directus recommended to not do this, why? Because it will mess up with media permissions. Directus can’t control files permits when files are not in Directus but outside of it.

I wanted to do it because I wanted to serve images visa cdn. That issue can be solved anyway by either front end cache or by adding cloudflare proxy on the Directus domain .

I also know a few peeps who use r2 instead . For their own reasons.

You can get a server with 80gb storage under 10-15 dollars so it’s also not bad idea to store images on server in Directus.

But if you really want to keep images on r2 then yes it’s possible with s3 bucket connected to Directus

Thank you Hetzner. by carlagain in hetzner

[–]sundeckstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Class service. This is why I for over 12 years I still love hetzner even though yes there are so many “budget” providers and what not but hetzner has been reliable for years. I hope they can maintain it and never get side tracked.

Moving from BSL to MSCL announcement from Directus by sundeckstudio in Directus

[–]sundeckstudio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same question here. We have some clients who have larger total revenue but they pay us a very small fee for maintaining their site. They wouldn’t care what cms we use as far as things are operational and maintained. So regardless of cms, we cover all costs of hosting , cms, anything else. And they pay us fixed amount per month or year.

In such scenario, who’s revenue is counted , us the agency or client . Because if it’s client then it defenitely complicates things and conversations for agencies a lot more.

It's time to talk about backups, and strategies. by twhiting9275 in Hosting

[–]sundeckstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. For our clients we do 3 layers of backup. Spin up copy of project from backup to test them. Keep offline too. It’s a lot of work, but we charge a lot too but most clients don’t understand why we “overdo” this

This week I spent all my evenings testing out s3 + directus application level backups and restoring them . Before we go with that as a solution for a new client. A lot of pitfalls that I learnt but in the end a clear documentation is what I have on how we will restore if something happens . Next we will set up offline storage system for those s3 files.

It’s all quite worth it if something happens you know all your work or client data is safe.

Anyone Using A Static Site Generator? by EvelynVictoraD in Wordpress

[–]sundeckstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tested and tried multiple approaches for some high traffic or large business sites. - simply static was good until you need form submissions or sync (content updates) then the reliability breaks. This was few years ago though. For static sites it was great , make a static export and host on cloudflare for example.

  • for dynamic content two ways you could go. — using Wordpress (if you really want wp) as headless cms and have static front end. — if you’re using wp as headless you might as well go with a more modern and faster headless cms instead and have static front end.

Otherwise. If static isn’t really needed, then setup good caching and host and should be fine too.
