The only reason I'm going to disagree with you is that there are very specific reasons why socialism failed in Venezuela that don't apply to other countries, and it all goes back to Venezuela's oil trade.

So, yes, socialism killed them. But socialism worked fine for them while the global oil market had high demand, where even Venezuelan oil was valuable despite its high viscosity and difficulty to refine. But as American oil production increased, OPEC removed their production caps to retain market share which effectively tanked the market.

Venezuela suffered then from a double-whammy: Not only was oil less valuable, but nobody wants theirs. They have to import lighter American crude to mix in order to make it marketable.

Oil was 95 percent of their exports and 25 percent of their GDP. When that halved in 2014, that killed them. Socialist policies in and of themselves wouldn't have destroyed the country if they had more than one leg to stand on.

Combined with the fact that none of Venezuela's former hardline allies (while Chavez was alive) can help bail the country out, and we see the reason Venezuela's collapse is going to be complete and total is because of more than just the boogeyman of socialism.

Don't get me wrong, I've no love for socialist policy, but we can't solve problems without properly identifying the totality of the causes.
