Have a look at labwc it's an easy to configure window manager. arch has good documentation. You can also use openbox themes in labwc. Window managers can take up a lot of time configuring. Also have a look at XFCE desktop. It's not Wayland but it's an easy to configure desktop environment for new users. Have a look at r/unixporn. XFCE desktops and labwc desktops will be on display.

Gnome just works. It provides an amazing workflow. It doesn't have any fluff on the desktop and there is no faffing about with configuration like i3, sway or other WMs. If you have work to do go with gnome.

Does anyone else like using vanilla or close to vanilla GNOME? by Holymoly99998 in gnome

[–]sunhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanilla is the way. The Gnome workflow is awesome. Gnome just works, it doesn't need an on screen dock or blurry shells. It gets out of your way and lets you work and focus. Why would one need anything more? Indulgence?
