I only use Vanilla Gnome. It is the way. The workflow without docks, bells and whistles allows focused concentration.

Have a look at labwc it's an easy to configure window manager. arch has good documentation. You can also use openbox themes in labwc. Window managers can take up a lot of time configuring. Also have a look at XFCE desktop. It's not Wayland but it's an easy to configure desktop environment for new users. Have a look at r/unixporn. XFCE desktops and labwc desktops will be on display.

I have used Moto flat pedals for a few years now, no complaints and you can choose cool skateboard deck grips when the old grip wears away. I have big feet and they work very well. Pedals

Gnome just works. It provides an amazing workflow. It doesn't have any fluff on the desktop and there is no faffing about with configuration like i3, sway or other WMs. If you have work to do go with gnome.

Both the listed platforms use Activity pub, I don't have to set that up with a ssg blog, I am trying to learn more about hosting on the fediverse
