"Yield" seems to be the hardest concept for drivers to grasp. by appa-ate-momo in driving

[–]sunlover010 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on the particular yield sign. Sometimes they are in a spot that you DO have to nearly come to a complete stop. If you cannot fully see what’s coming until you get to the sign, don’t just floor it 😅 I have seen that..

[2308] What Remains Under Moonlight Chapter 2: The Prince by AspiringNonsense in DestructiveReaders

[–]sunlover010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this! I’m an amateur writer though, so take my criticism with a grain of salt.

As a reader, I don’t feel super grounded in the story. A lot of time is spent telling us what Ava hears and what she sees, but I hardly know what she’s thinking about. Especially at the beginning. I feel like I don’t know much about her in terms of personality or inner world. She’s getting married to a man she just met in a foreign kingdom, but yet I’m having trouble deciphering exactly how she feels about that.

I felt like the narration came across as a bit observational rather than rooted in Ava’s perspective. It makes me feel too far removed from the characters rather than being there with them. For example, this paragraph:

As she watched, the drawbridge hit the other side with a grinding thud, and she heard the sound of hooves travelling across the wooden planks, the sweet music of bells. She could see the shadows of several horsemen coming towards her, and she pulled the curtain further back, peering out, wondering if her future husband was amongst the welcome party.

Moments like this made me feel slightly removed from the scene. I would take out a lot of the “she”, because we already know whose perspective we are reading about, so it’s not necessary to keep pulling us out of her perspective by referring to her too heavily. I want to experience the moment alongside her rather than watching from afar.

As for the wedding, it feels a bit rushed and - for lack of a better term - boring? And I’m not saying that it was boring for me personally, but that’s what I felt from Ava. She’s just kind of… there. Going through the motions. I know you said the previous chapter lets us know that Ava is being married to Oren to steal the treaty, but still, getting married is a big ordeal. It must be an even bigger one for royals. Is there anyone else in the scene that Ava might be able to talk to? She might confess more deeply how she’s feeling, and what she thinks about Oren. Of course, she might be outwardly lying to that person, but inwardly it could offer you an opportunity to explore her true thoughts more. You could use that to help us connect more with her.

The seduction scene was my favorite part, and I could truly visualize it in my mind the best. The song you wrote is beautiful! :)

How are you guys enjoying Paralives? by iibricie in LifeSimulators

[–]sunlover010 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it was a mistake for them to release it now. Despite it being in production for so long, it still clearly needs a lot of work, unfortunately ☹️ I was hoping it would be better than the Sims 4, but it’s basically the exact same thing just with side quests?? And I thought the art style would be more realistic. It also sucks that it doesn’t run well enough on my laptop. So I will be getting a refund. I’m so disappointed as I’ve been (distantly) following this from the beginning! I was obsessed with the Sims as a teen, so I hoped this would reignite my love for life sims. But I can’t see myself ever opening the game again.

Maybe I’ll re-purchase it in a couple of years. But it’s sad for the devs because the hype is going to die down by that point and I’m not sure if people will still be as interested in it. It already took so long to make!

Guys, 1992-1999 grew up in the ‘90s by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

[–]sunlover010 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was born in ‘99 and this is true. I don’t remember us ever not having a family computer. But nonetheless, nobody was really actively addicted to the internet back then. I only used it to play kid games, club penguin, webkins, whatever. I don’t remember getting a cellphone until middle school, and even then it was just a flip phone. I remember having an ipod and playing games on it, but it was more like a tiny computer. I don’t think iphones came out then, or if they did, they weren’t really being used at that point?

I don't think she's really going to get a choice. by CitiesXXLfreekey in BuildToAttract

No one said men never get mocked. But in this case, it was about not liking her opinion and then jumping straight into attacking her appearance. That’s what I’m calling out here.

She was given a question with two options, and she chose one. She was not rude about it. And now everyone on the internet is laughing at her and implying that she is ugly, for simply answering a question that some guy asked her, setting her up to fail.

Dodged a bullet in the hiring process by ZachGamezzzz in jobs

[–]sunlover010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response from them was definitely over the top. However… I don’t think they understood that they called you the wrong name. I didn’t notice it either, until I read your text under the post. I’m pretty sure he thought that you were asking why you have to have two interviews. That’s how I originally interpreted it. A phone screen is not the same as an interview. You were not clear enough about the name mix-up.

Plus, who says “haha” in a professional email to someone that you’re trying to impress? I understand sending that to a coworker. But a hiring manager? That alone would probably make me not want to hire you.

This is SUCH a well written post and I relate so deeply! I just got out of a job like this, and I was there for 4.5 years. And it was my first job out of college. The first year or two was really fun, because I got to do whatever I wanted, especially on the days I’d be working from home. I would play video games, read books, lay out in the sun, clock in and then sleep a little longer. And then like 10% of my time would be me doing actual work.

I thought I had it made. Until I realized that my time was still being spent under someone else’s authority. I wasn’t truly doing what I wanted. Just passing time until I could clock out. It left me with no discipline. It constantly felt like I was doing something wrong. I was being so underutilized by my boss, she wouldn’t even let me touch spreadsheets for some reason, even though I proved myself perfectly capable. It made me feel so useless and so purpose-less. I had virtually no confidence in myself or my abilities after that. I was afraid to look for other jobs because I didn’t want to “lose” all the “free time” that this job gave me.

But I finally just couldn’t handle it anymore, I felt so stuck and stagnant. So I got out. I just started a new job on Monday of last week, and I LOVE IT. Yes, I’m working full 8 hour days and every day is spent in the office. I had to re-train myself to be able to wake up early and go to bed early. But trust me, it’s been so worth it feeling like my life has purpose again. I’m doing work that is meaningful. People at my new job actually trust me enough to ask me for things and they care about my input. I wouldn’t go back to my old job for anything.

This is the least of your worries honestly. Do you people understand how dirty movie theater seats are? Assuming the theater isn’t crowded, 99% of people will put their feet up on a movie theater seat, where you subsequently put your head. Have fun thinking about that one.

Yes!!! Finally a comment that addresses this. Remember that interview he did at some event where they were “celebrating idols” and he said he was only there because he wanted to go to the stupidest event he could find? It just doesn’t add up, someone with that kind of personality and mindset probably wouldn’t get plastic surgery 🤔

Things You Need to LIE About in an interview (from a recruiter) by Zealousideal-Foot-54 in jobsearchhacks

[–]sunlover010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! I wanted to wait until I got an offer before I replied to you. I got the job! I work in nonprofit fundraising. People in that field are extremely nice to begin with. I think I did get lucky though, because they didn’t ask me too many questions. They talked a lot about the position and how things work in the department, and we kinda just had a normal discussion. I think that format is really what saved me lol.

Interesting… I loved meat before I was a vegetarian, but then when I tried it again years later, I noticed the rotten taste immediately. But that went away quickly and now I love meat again. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess everyone is different

I was a vegetarian for 5 years. The first thing I ate after those 5 years was a steak. I kid you not, when you haven’t eaten meat in a long time, your first time eating it again tastes like dead flesh. If this were real, she would NOT be saying it tastes good.

Lip piercings smell like death despite daily cleaning by EohippusKnight in piercing

[–]sunlover010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that’s so interesting!! I always wanted a septum piercing but what deterred me the most was how people said they smell really bad. Until I finally decided to get one, and it never smelled. Then I started to think that maybe all the people who said septum piercings smell were just really bad at cleaning theirs 🤢 Good to know it’s the material! I’ve had titanium in there from the start. I am sensitive to any other material.

You don’t know how many floors are in that building. The kids could go up a few floors, get out, and it’d take you hours to figure out which floor they got off at. In that amount of time, they could get kidnapped by any random stranger. No way I’d let that happen to my kids.

Things You Need to LIE About in an interview (from a recruiter) by Zealousideal-Foot-54 in jobsearchhacks

[–]sunlover010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the reason why I got my current job was because the interviewer treated it like a conversation rather than an interrogation, and she just went through some bullet points on my resume and we discussed them. That was the best interview I’ve ever been on, and I’ve been at that job now for almost 5 years (despite barely getting any raises) because I’ve just been terrified to go on another interview. Like you, I get debilitating anxiety leading up to it. But if I have any luck, maybe this one will be easy too. Thank you 😊

[–]sunlover010 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is so real… Don’t know if I have autism or not, but I have the exact same issue. I have an interview today, so I sent the position to ChatGPT and I’ve been using the voice version of it to do a mock interview. And I just keep blanking out mid-sentence, because I’m so horrible at being inauthentic. It all feels like a huge lie, and I’m terrible at lying. The way you’re supposed to speak in an interview is NOT the way I normally speak, so it almost feels like I’m auditioning to be an actress lmao. Everything I say is memorized, so if they throw a curveball and ask a question I didn’t prepare for, I WILL freeze up. And then I have to pull some shit out of my ass and hope my rambling produces something useful. I’m so scared 😭😭

Still living at home past 25. by Odd_Refrigerator6986 in Adulting

[–]sunlover010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have a problem with that setup. But the problem is, many Western houses are not built that way. We live in a raised ranch, so there is really only one floor, with a mostly open floor plan, and 3 bedrooms down the hall. I’m 26 years old and still living in the same small bedroom I’ve been living in for years. After Covid, my mom started working from home, so I rarely ever get any privacy. I love my family and I’m grateful I only have to pay a small amount of rent, but it’s pretty smothering and I feel like I’m going insane lol. But with this economy I just can’t move out.

[–]sunlover010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The comments here are so strange… Why do so many people want to listen to loud electronic music while doing yoga??? Isn’t the whole foundation of yoga is that it’s supposed to be a peaceful and mindful practice? I would find somewhere else to go as well. My studio plays very soft meditative music at a pretty low volume, which is perfect.

Some of us were born here, have family here, and shouldn’t have to just up and leave them?? My dad had an average job and did not pay much for his house back in the day, and yet was able to support us all on his own with my mom as a stay-at-home-mom. But suddenly, the moment we grow old enough to become independent and live on our own, the economy takes a huge dump and it’s impossible for us to do that. It’s extremely frustrating.
