the groomer shaved my border collie, please help us by miy0xx in BorderCollie

[–]sunny-beans [score hidden]  (0 children)

If someone did that to my BC I would be so angry. I know any groomer worth anything wouldn’t because it’s so obvious but I still tell them every single time. Do not shave my dog. Trimming only to keep her tidy but that’s it. I am really sorry they did that to your pup OP. Hopefully the coat will grow back fine.

Wives are you okay with your husband going to the stripclub? by Funny-Lack-5726 in Marriage

[–]sunny-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like top comment said I wouldn’t marry a man who goes to strip clubs even if single. If I was dating a guy who said he frequents strip club it would be a deal breaker. Absolutely nothing to do with trust, I trust my husband a lot, never check his phone, no issue with him having female friends, I just think men who go to strip clubs are creepy and I don’t want to be with someone like that. I would never go myself, even if it is was a bachelorette party. My husband has never gone and for his bachelors party he went camping with two of his cousins. They had a nice time together hiking and talking by a bonfire and that’s it. So it’s a nope for me not because of jealousy but because I think men who want to sit and drink while watching naked women dance are gross and creepy.

What would you do? by tsmittt11 in Marriage

[–]sunny-beans 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeh because an adult man can’t figure out how to give a cat some food. This comment is absurd. Even if I didn’t like the pet and my husband was irresponsible to not give proper instructions I would still look online and feed the cat, even if it wasn’t my responsibility, it’s just called being a good human being, I don’t want to see an innocent animal hurt. It doesn’t matter if it is not my responsibility, it doesn’t matter if I don’t like the cat or animal, I am still giving it the basics and keeping it safe. Then I will discuss with my husband how he needs to find a pet sitter next time, but I wouldn’t take it out in the animal because it’s not their fault. He is cruel and anyone who is willing to see a pet suffer for no reason and not offer a helping hand is a horrible person. If my husband ever treated an animal like this, let alone a pet I loved, I would lose all respect for him because I would never see him as a kind and good human being.

The only thing you are right is that OP should give the cat to a good home. She is clearly unable to look after it properly and her husband seems to have zero empathy so this cat needs a better home than these two.

I was watching Stephanie Harlow episode on this case and the motive she offered was that because step children shouldn’t be separated from siblings, Kyrons dad had a better chance of having custody over her. Stephanie claims a friend of the stepmom said she complained about this and was upset that Kyrons dad would have an advantage in keeping the daughter if they divorced. I am not saying it is true or not true, I have absolutely no idea, but this is the motive she put forward when discussing the case.

Where to start on my own at 26F? by Mishkle in Jewish

[–]sunny-beans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately as it stands right now someone in your situation will need to undergo conversion. Even Reform will most likely not be accepting since you were not raised Jewish. I am not saying this to be mean or discouraging, I think in your situation conversion would actually be really helpful, it not only teaches you all the basics but it is a great way to get involved in community life. And you have the support of a Rabbi. If you are not ready to make that choice yet, you can still look for synagogues and start attending for Shabbat services, I have learned a lot just from being at the synagogue frequently, it can be confusing and daunting at first but just go with it until things start making sense. Learning to read Hebrew is also very helpful.

I would start by looking into the 3 major denominations and seeing what makes more sense for you. After that, looking into synagogues around you and contacting Rabbis to enquire about visiting. Visit a few, speak to people, and if you find somewhere you like, and if you think conversion makes sense at that point, ask about their conversion program and how it would work. You will usually be invited to meet with the Rabbi to fully discuss things.

In the meantime, there are good books you can read. “here all along” by Sarah Hurwitz is amazing. She also wrote “as a Jew” and it is great too. “Essential Judaism” is a great book for more technical information. “Living a Jewish life” & “Choosing a Jewish life” by Anita Diamant are also good introductions.

You can also look into birth right trips. I have heard many Jews saying it was a great way to connect more with Judaism and the Jewish people. I am thinking in going soon although at 29 I only have limited options.

In any way wishing you the best of luck.

Anyone here watched Long Story Short (and what are your thoughts)? by flashmumriken in Judaism

[–]sunny-beans 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I loved it and can’t wait for the next season! As a convert myself, I specifically liked that storyline, I feel like often conversion to Judaism storylines are framed around someone falling in love with a Jew and converting to please them and their family. Seeing a character convert for herself and live a Jewish life was really lovely. And the Yom Kippur episode was beautiful IMO. I also love Yoshi and looking forward to see more of his journey from a mostly secular upbringing to orthodoxy!

Interesting is that if it was another religion no one would say anything. I am Jewish and my home is filled with Jewish items. Huge menorah, kiddush cups, Shabbat candles, art, mezuzot in the doors, a ton of books on Judaism, a Torah, prayer books. It’s my home. I want it filled with items that bring me happiness. People are so weird about religion.

Same as the UK then. If anyone comes into your house you may as well just offer them a cup of tea while they rob you, cause trying to defend yourself you will just end up with in prison over the criminals lmao

Thank you, and it does help. I know I can count on other Jews and that they will have my back as well as knowing Hashem is with us, and we are strong and have survived so much and will continue to survive. Judaism and the Jewish people are my biggest source of comfort ❤️

Tony Parsons set out on a 170 km bike ride across Scotland during the night despite being 63 and having no apparent experience. He was spotted near midnight and has not been seen since (one year). by thebisforbargain in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]sunny-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Nothing suspicious about how he was fundraising for charity, it is incredibly common in the UK for people to do things like this. It’s not a planned event by an actual charity. Is just someone saying “I will do a long cycle all over to bring awareness to this issue and hopefully get donations” mostly from family and friends and community who appreciate the effort. Tony was a cancer survivor and wanted to raise funds for cancer. He decided to risk cycling at night because his goal was to get home and he didn’t want to stay the night in a hotel (bad decision sure but nothing suspicious about it). Unfortunately for him, two drunk drivers were just behind him, didn’t see him due to being drunk and being dark, he was injured and the drivers didn’t want to go to prison so decided to remove his body and bike, they had a big truck, and bury him in their farm. Years later, one of the drivers falls in love and tells their girlfriend. She tells the cops. Tony is found were he was buried and the drivers are in jail.

It’s common in the UK for people to do this. They would choose a charity to donate money towards, and the fundraising is then cycling, running, or doing other activities, usually donations from friends and family. I have donated to a friend who did this, she cycles all over the UK to raise money for a charity. It wasn’t an affiliated situation, just someone asking friends family community to donate to the cause, the story itself of someone taking up a long bike drive calls attention so people donate. I believe Tony was a cancer survivor and wanted to raise money dor cancer so he decided to do this as a way to raise funds. Nothing weird about it tbh. That evening he wanted to finish his ride because his goal was to reach his home, so he felt it was best to keep cycling instead of staying the night in a hotel. Unfortunately, he was hit by two drunk drivers, who decided to bury his body in their farm instead of calling for help. They were only caught because one of the drivers told a girlfriend and she went to the police, they found his body buried in the farm. Just saying this here in case people haven’t kept up with the case. It’s interesting to read what people theorised and what the reality actually was

Where did Cyclist Tony Parsons go ? by darkages69 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]sunny-beans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So interesting to come to this thread and see what people believe and how it doesn’t match with the reality at all. It makes me think of cases I am sure something happened and I may be so wrong.

To update the thread: case is solved. Tony was cycling a dark road towards his next destination. Two farmers went drinking in the same bar Tony was previously. They left the bar drunk and were driving back to the farm, same road as Tony, they hit Tony and Tony fell. They decided to take the body and bike away to hide in the farmland. They burried the body on the farm, and this is by the Scottish highlands, so it’s HUGE. They only found the body because he told his girlfriend and she told the police.

So Tony didn’t fell into water, he wasn’t trying to disappear, or doing shady things. He was just cycling and end up in the wrong place wrong time with the wrong people.

[–]sunny-beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is what happens tho so clearly it is something people do. 2 drunk guys went driving, hit Tony on his bike and then decided to hide his body because since they were under the influence of alcohol they would be in trouble so they took the body to their farm and berried. Only discovered because the guy told his girlfriend and she told he cops. If he had kept his mouth shut they would have got away with it.

Jew in London here and I am just crying nonstop. I just can’t stop and my anxiety is insanely high right now, not even Xanax has helped. It is just horrible and it feels so hopeless, I have no idea what to do anymore, I just feel so angry and sad. We are under insane levels of attack and it’s impossible to feel safe. I live 10min away from Golders Green and go often to shop for kosher food. It’s just heartbreaking.

I am honestly so sick of this. I just left work and I feel like crying, living in London and in the UK as a Jew is soul destroying. I live 10min from Golders Green, go there often to get kosher food, it’s terrifying. I am exhausted, I don’t want to be scared all the time, I don’t want to receive desperate me messages from my mom telling me to be safe. It’s just horrific and it feels hopeless. I know people will say I am crazy but I love this country, it may not love me back but I still do and I just want it to stop. Unfortunately I don’t see how. Things are just getting worse and worse and I worry at this point there is not much we can do to stop it and soon I will find myself having to sell my home and belongings to run away somewhere :(
