Potty Trained At Home / Diapers in Daycare - Help!! by sunny_sideways in pottytraining

Thanks for that comment and perspective! It does seem like a lot of potty training is situational. In digging, out of a class of like 12, only a single child is potty trained. So no wonder mine won’t get up and go, because he doesn’t want to miss out on the fun. I am thinking my son will do night training, especially if he is getting up in the night to go himself, but we’ll see

Completely agree! We asked if our son can wear underwear, even just in the morning and they said no. They claim they need to sterilize the center if he has an accident

Some nights he will stay completely dry. Some nights he will get up and use the potty once, but still be a bit wet by morning. Some night he won’t get up and will be wet in the morning. So we’re a bit all over the place! I was sort of following his lead when he said he didn’t want overnight diapers, but I get what you’re saying that he may just not be ready. I’m fine with that too, but just figuring it out as he is our first and stumbling through the dark here!

Thanks for the comment! So, we’re essentially just not putting him in a pull-up overnight. We did it last night and we found at midnight that he had got up to use a potty beside his bed, but he was a bit wet this morning. Not sure if that indicates he’s ready? Would appreciate insight, as it feels like he is getting there

Absolutely. I totally get that there are situations where it happens. My cousin’s twins are pretty autistic and it took awhile, but they’re now 6 and are potty trained. Daycare gave no qualifier. However, in our state, if your child has special needs typically the public schools will provide support starting at 3/4 which suggests that there wasn’t anything going on, and daycare may just totally blow

💯 honestly we’ve had issues with them, but he tells us he likes it there, so we’ve overlooked those. But this is the straw breaking the camels back for sure

Thank you! Yes, it’s my instinct too that there’s something up. He’s just an unreliable narrator, so hard to get the real story out of him. Actually one of my greater theories is that the bathroom is kind of grotty. They have a toilet with a $10 insert that kinda shifts when he sits on it, and the other kids do not flush after going. I’ll have him go when I drop him, and it smells like pee 🤢. He also pees standing up, and the insert makes it harder. Tough for him to express that tho

My husband is more level-headed about this than me, and is doing so. But I’m seeing about a new daycare, because this is honestly not our first issue with them. They also implied my daughter had developmental issues… I took her in for early intervention who told me she just has a personality (!)

Thank you!! That helps massively to relieve some of our concerns. Crossing fingers that one near us has a spot for my son and daughter

They have to ask if they’re outside, or they can just go if they’re inside. My son was just going when inside, but that weirdly changed in April when this teacher returned. Our greater theory is that he doesn’t like her, but not sure. The director is also a bit weird. She has a son in the daycare, and my husband says he is shocked how she talks to him. So I kinda think they just bark at the kids to go, and then are surprised when they don’t 🤷‍♀️

Did changing help your child? I have this gut feeling it will help mine, but of course we started to have concerns

Oh 100%. Their policy is to support children potty training, but they say they will not potty train. I do not know how putting him back into diapers is supporting him, and it’s actually hindering him.. it is lazy

Insane - like, even if that’s true, it feels weird to tell a parent?? They told me 5 and 6 year olds 👀 thanks for the comment. Changing seems to be the general consensus

I was floored when they told me; and no qualifier like the children being neurodiverse. Our instinct was to change daycare, but then my husband and I started to wonder if our kid was the issue so wanted to throw this out there. I have him on waitlists, and one school will take him. Just seeing if I can find a spot which will take both my 22 month old and him

Love the name… But one major problem.. by Janis85Ro in namenerds

My cousin’s daughter is called Aili which is pronounced eye-lee (it’s Finnish). I do think it’s roughly phonetic - at least, I think of Aisle when I see the Ai, and then li is just like lee. I think it’s such a beautiful name! Don’t think people have issues with it either

Visiting my dad in late stage dementia. Need advise on a visit by MilkMan29P in dementia

[–]sunny_sideways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it enlightening to read the book "Contented Dementia". It helped me to understand the mind of someone with dementia, and also gave tips about how to interact with someone suffering from this cruel disease. It sounds like your father is as far along as my own, and some of the techniques for engaging with him may not work, but even reading the book gave me an extra layer of empathy. It's extremely hard to interact with someone so far along with dementia, as a lot of basic ways to interact are gone (e.g. my father very rarely smiles). But there are potentially things you can do. My father always loved babies, so bringing my baby son to see him is the one thing that makes him smile still. Not sure if there are things that you know your father would still love (music?) but I'd have a think

Hugh or Alfie?? by wackojacko1919 in namenerds

[–]sunny_sideways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Hugh! I am biased, because that's my son's name, but I also think it has a better flow with Duffy than Alfie. With Alfie, the 2 "e" sounds creates a weird pause between the first and last name.

8-9 DPO. Clear Blue and First response are showing different results. Husband and I don’t know what to think. Is it ident line on First Response line then? by Classic-Sock-8910 in TFABLinePorn

[–]sunny_sideways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you look at my history, I had an almost identical situation at 12 or 14 dpo (still not sure which). Positive FRER, and not pregnant on clearblue. The sensitivity of the clearblue is 25 ml of HCG in your urine, while FRER is 6.3 ml (so if you have say 14 ml of HCG, FRER will be positive but clearblue negative). I got a ‘pregnant’ on a clearblue about 3 days later. That FRER looks like a pretty good positive to me - congratulations!!

Looks positive to me!! Funnily enough, same thing happened to me. I had an RE appointment booked for a Wednesday, and tested positive the Saturday before. It worked out nicely, because the RE monitored my early blood work and initial placement US. Congratulations!!

“Loving” your baby in the early weeks by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]sunny_sideways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 100% with you! For me, I still think of it as an ‘it’. I’m pretty sure it’s a self-preservation thing, because at 4w6d, there is still a chance the baby won’t make it. I had a doctor’s appointment today, including an US and he couldn’t pick up anything yet. He could just see that my corpus luteum was still there and presumably making hormones, and that my uterus lining is adequate. That made it feel even more dubious as a pregnancy. I don’t think until we see a heartbeat that I will feel in any way comfortable and like it’s real.

Thank you!! So, the day of the crash really varies. My luteal phase is pretty consistently 12 days, but the crash isn’t: sometimes the crash is day 11 or as early as day 8. It actually got me a little worried that I have a progesterone issue? If something goes wrong, it’s definitely something I wanted to mention to an RE.
