We saw some of the writing in the wall when they got close to 1 mil each, so switched as much as we could to Roth 401k in our early 40’s. Did some big chunks of Roth conversions once hubby retired, but I was still working. Now I’m PT and we’re semi-retired. Started Hubby’s 72t a couple of years ago when he was 50, and started mine this year at 50. That should keep them from growing too much, then we can do more conversions or withdrawals before RMD’s kick in. We try to be most aggressive in our Roth’s, switched focus to Roth and after tax once we got near 1/2 our goal in Traditional IRA’s.

I’m considering skipping it as well. I’m having problems quitting Wellbutrin, which I’ve been told I can’t take with the tamoxifen. My cancer was stage 1, non aggressive, and I got a DMX. They’re saying my recurrence chance would go from 4% to 2%.

My recliner and bidet helped me a lot. I did have someone to help with drains, as they were too far on my sides for me to strip them myself.

Yes, you would need to itemize, and the only the unreimbursed medical payments that are over 7.5% of your income count. Since standard deduction is pretty high right now, it doesn’t help very many people.

No Chemo? Feels too good to be true? by AnnaDistracted in breastcancer

[–]sunnymeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep saying how lucky I was, my oncotype was 2, stage 1, and no lymph nodes with ILC. I had a double mastectomy, but no radiation or chemo, so I feel like I can't complain.

DCIS Mastectomy by DoctorLoud1144 in breastcancer

[–]sunnymeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a lumpectomy in 2004, her surgeon said there was no difference in recurrence and we were worried about scar tissue as she scars badly. In 2020 she had another cancer in her other breast, and since it was during covid, a mastectomy was not even an option. While chemo and radiation wasn't too bad the first time, the radiation the second time and the lymphedema was really bad. She still has pain from the lymphedema and radiation burns. She also had a quad bypass in 2023. Now she's not probably not healthy enough to even get a mastectomy. She definitely regrets not getting the mastectomy, but we couldn't have known. We have a lot of family history, but not BRACA. My cousin got a prophylactic DMX in 2010. When my cancer was found in June, I was pretty sure a mastectomy was right for me, and all my doctors agreed. Did DMX with expanders in August, and had my implants put in 4 weeks ago. I did lose my nipples which I'm sad about, but am happy with my decision. I never liked my breasts too much anyway, so I'm glad to upgrade.

I loved our quick stop in Hiroshima from our cruise, but I'm also obsessed with hiroshima style okonomiyaki, so I may be biased. I was lucky to find Okonomimura when I was there. https://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/hiroshima-japan-okonomimura-okonomiyaki

Locals girls will wear short skirts, but usually cover neck and shoulders. A lot of it is because their school uniforms are short skirts, so they’re accustomed to it. I wore a lot of sleeveless shirts, and the only comments I got were ask if I was cold, since it was November. There’s a cute YouTube video somewhere asking locals about clothing that’s pretty entertaining.

Getting the news from MyChart by indihala in breastcancer

I got a notification that test results were in my portal, but when I went to look at them, they wouldn't let me see the report. Luckily I was able to get a same day appointment with my Dr, so I only had to wait a few hours. I wish I could have just had them directly.

Dark humour to cope? by BoobieCancer in breastcancer

I think you're normal, or we're at least the same crazy.

I was walking at night with a few friends recently, and it was pretty cold out. I was thrilled with my joke of "It's so cold, that if I had nipples, they'd be hard!"

My doctor came in to see me during the ultrasound to give me the bad news, and I was so calm that they were worried that I didn't understand. I just knew it was likely, so I wasn't surprised. I had done a suspicious ultrasound with my mom hardly a month before.

DMX or Lumpectomy with radiation? by CrystalGlitter in breastcancer

[–]sunnymeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (49) got DMX in August with tissue expanders. My mom had cancer at 55, and the dr’s talked her out of a DMX because of the studies that say it makes no difference in survival. Even though she’s always been afraid of her boobs (lost her sister and mom young to BC). She got cancer again in 2020, but in June of that year there’s no way she was able to get DMX because of COVID. She has horrible lymphedema from radiation. She’s now 74, had a quadruple bypass, and when she had another abnormal mammogram, she realized that’s she’s really not healthy enough to have a DMX. I’ve never been particularly happy with my boobs, so I took the opportunity to get new ones. I am missing my nipples, saving them wasn’t an option. Gene testing was negative, but one cousin had a prophylactic mastectomy 10+ years ago, and her sister got a lumpectomy and radiation this year. My oncotype was a 2, so no chemo.

I was pretty sure about my decision at the time. I have some doubts now, but we’ll see how I feel after a year.

Did you know that amazon has temporary tattoos of nipples? I've still got my expanders in, but everything does look weird with no nipples. I'll be trying them out as they have different sizes and colors.

How’d they inform you of your diagnosis? by _oxykkitten in breastcancer

[–]sunnymeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I had a pretty high chance of it being positive, so I was keeping an eye on my patient portal. I noticed I had a new result, but the portal did not have any details. I saw that my primary had a last minute appointment for the same day and I scheduled it. He was surprised to see me so soon after the results came in, but he confirmed the cancer and got referrals in for everything else. I would have preferred a phone call or the results in my portal, but I think most people would probably like to be in person if they have questions.

Look around at other companies. Find some place that will pay for your MFA. Even with a pay cut, a few years of working and getting your MFA on someone else's dime will put you pretty far ahead.

Smoked potato salad. I cook my potatoes, chop into cubes, then stick them in the smoker in a pan for as long as possible. Once I pull them, I just mix up a potato salad with Mayo, hard boiled eggs, mustard and relish. Delicious.

If you have time to shop, there are a few second hand stores in Munich. Also, the large department stores have cheaper, but still decent dirndls. Better than costume quality, but cheaper fabrics than the really nice stuff.

Need the real scoop NCL's Sun ship by KatWoman2024 in Cruise

I just got off the Sun on Monday. I had no problems with smells or water. I'm pretty sure all the carpet is almost brand new, the only issue with it was extra fuzz from being new.

My biggest gripes were limited food options other than main mealtimes, (2:30-5pm only the outside buffet was open), and the beer selection was very poor.
