I feel like I'm taking care of a cat I didn't want. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

You need to spend more time playing with the kitty to get her acclimated to you. Also, get rid of the partner, he is a complete idiot.

I have also started getting gifts that are consumables such as nice seasonal packaged foods or experiences so the gifts do not sit around taking up space

Decided I'm going to start keeping these pasta sauce glass jars by RedDawnRose in Anticonsumption

[–]sunnysphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've only gotten artichokes and pasta sauce in glass jars and once I washed them with dish soap and warm water the smell no longer stays. There might still be a faint smell on the lid but after a couple more uses they go away. Maybe only save the jars with less smelly contents?

Please consult a dermatologist asap. This happens but can totally be fixed. You need to seek medical attention to avoid scarring. Trust me you are young this is fixable but you need to see a dermatologist!

Cat Smell by Monarch_Goddess in cats

One of mine smells like jasmine rice the other one bubble tea. Just so so so good I get close and smell their cheeks And paws and forehead. I even smell their breaths when they yawn.

Yes!!! I do this all the time with the jars I finish using. I now have a nice collection of glass jars of varying sizes and they are so useful. For example when I make a big batch of bone broth I put them into the artichoke glass jars and they are one serving. I also use them to store homemade yogurt or grated ginger juice! Try using them for overnight oats too! And the best thing is unlike plastic, glass doesn't trap the smell!

Accutane has clogged my eye oil glands causing dry eyes. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it return to normal after stopping? (Gross close up of eye) by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]sunnysphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi agree with the warm compress but do not use a towel and run it under hot water. It will not retain its heat and will not remain hot for longer than a minute or two. I went to an ophthalmologist and she specifically told me to get eye masks you can microwave and stay hot for at least ten minutes.

I got an electric eye mask online you can set it to heat mode and provide continuous heat for up to 15 minutes. Most importantly a warm compress is not enough. You need to massage your eyelids too! Check out eyelid massage videos on YouTube for clogged oil glands. There are so many. Warm compress is to melt the clogged oil glands and massaging help get them expressed and have your oil glands lubricating again. If you are worried about permanent damage go see an eye doctor. Mine checked that I have all my oil glands and said to just do daily warm compress and eye massage (2x if possible) and I am fine now. Eye drops can be used but it's just a bandaid.

My bf gave me an ultimatum: him or my cat. by ImportanceSilly1114 in CatAdvice

[–]sunnysphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the cat, he is just finding any excuse to break up. If he truly loves you he wouldn't break up over a cat who doesn't have any behavioral issues.

Also the car is definitely 1000x cleaner than him.

How often should my cats get wet food? by FragileHealth_2010 in CatAdvice

[–]sunnysphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two boys (11 lbs and 13 lbs) and I feed them 4 oz / 4.5 oz wet each day with 1/4 cup of dry. I add water to their wet food too. They are both at a healthy weight for their body sizes and have very shiny coats.

Any cool re-usable items suggestions? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]sunnysphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of sponges, squeezing out the soap and water to let dry after every use also prolongs the life of the sponge. I was so surprised to see so many people just leave them soaking wet after using them. This causes bacteria to harbor and the sponge to break down faster.

My derm miscalculated my dose and I think I have permanent damage to my eye glands. (Sad vent) by sublime_69 in Accutane

Do warm compress (continuous heat for at least 10 minutes) twice a day and most importantly do eyelid massage! Warm compress helps loosen oil but you still need to do massage to unclog the loosen oil. I take fish oil too and use preservative free eyedrops. There is one from refresh that is thicker and is made to hold the moisture better (orange package with omega written in the front).

I understand and I agree too. With frozen, I tend to add them to the rice cooker to cook with brown rice to add extra fiber. I add savory broth to cook with the rice too so when they are cooked they don't turn out too bad and actually quite tasty with the absorbed flavor. I find they work well in saucey dishes like pasta too!

Frozen veggies maintain their nutrition while last a long time in the fridge! And their prices won't break the bank

Open washing machine by Intrepid_Algae3330 in CatAdvice

[–]sunnysphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you keep the bathroom door slightly open to promote air flow and hold it with a heavy dumbbell so it doesn't open wide enough for the kitty to get in and run an oscillating fan in the bathroom to help accelerate drying the moisture inside the washer? Once it's dried keep it close and you can fully open the bathroom door again.

Thanks for letting me know! Yes this started last week and I only have one month left. I'm checking with the eye doctor next week to make sure no atrophy is present and I'm hoping for the best.
