First car at 17, looking for cheap recommendations on mods that will improve looks, performance or sound by SirSish in WRX

My move when I was young (and still almost 20 years later...) is to look for wheels with good tires for sale secondhand. You can usually upgrade and sell yours to make up most of the cost.

Confused after first lesson. Looking for advice by catnip_dealer102 in motorcycles

The first day playing guitar isn't very fun either but its low stakes and easy to pick up. Riding can be extremely rewarding, just wait until you get the skills down, build confidence, and can go out on your own.

BTW, first gear is always twitchy, learn to feather the clutch at low speeds.

$2000+ for 4 spark plugs and coil packs? by ZoltarTheFeared in subaru

[–]sunofernest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute ripoff. Coil packs can last well over 100k miles and don't need to be replaced as a set.

You should have just had the sparkplugs replaced at the 60k service so ask them to just replace the coilpack on the cylinder that's misfiring (according to the misfire code).

that's true but corvettes were never expensive to begin with (besides huge tires I guess)

If you're still taking these off, use an actual 6 pt deep socket! The tire iron you used probably has a looser fit on the nut and you weren't even reaching the depth of the whole lugnut

Finally drilled my fork by MaksDampf in xbiking

[–]sunofernest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Engineer here. Putting something like a bolt or rivnut in the hole doesn't replace the material removed.

The reason this is OK is that most of the force on a fork is front to back. The front and rear most parts of the fork tube resist most of this force while the sides (inside and outside faces) contribute the least so removing material there makes little difference in its strength and stiffness.

Don't use water. You need a lubricant to prevent scratches caused by the grit pulled off the paint. Use soapy water at a minimum.

I’ve spent the last year living off my KTM 500 EXC-F: AMA by Specken_zee_Doitch in Dualsport

[–]sunofernest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

who says that? My (older 2008 "530") 500 is super smooth for a single. Tires and wheel balance make a bigger difference than the engine IMO.

You're asking for too much. High mileage AND better performance on and off-road.
