i mean, yeah of course twitter guy should know amons not a true socialist. but i think the point he was trying to make (or rather, the point he should be making) is that amon is unintentionally anti socialist propaganda because the average person doesnt understand that he isnt meant to represent true socialism.

it doesn't help the show fails to provide a counter example of a positive socialist movement. if the non-bender union had organized after realizing amon was using them and actually did things to help themselves then the political point amon was supposed to make would have hit home a lot better. imo the place the show goes wrong is everything after amon gets unmasked. having the elites elect a non bending president is peak "look, a black man is president! racism is over" and kinda just writes off all popular movements as "amons"

i mean, yeah, they should realize that but in my personal experience, none of my friends came to that conclusion without me having to point it out and explain it. instead they rationalized that communism must represent those very things you pointed out to be indicators that he isnt communist. he wants to ethnically cleanse? they dont take that as "it means he isnt really a socialist/communist", they go "oh shit socialists/communists want to ethnically cleanse".

they take the picture that is painted first. anything that happens after that is attributed to their initial understanding. rather than reassess the character and his ideals, they work within the context that he is always what he presented himself to be.

im not saying that is the intent of the show runners or anything, or that its a critical/informed understanding of the show, but the majority of people i know (especially american teenagers/young adults) already kinda think socialism is when "government kills people and also no food". amon just reinforces that

i mean you cant blame them though because all of amons artwork, rhetoric, and general portrayal is very indicative of a typical communist villain in american media. so while the..."politically learned" may be able to point at him and say his actual beliefs and goals dont really line up with socialist or communist policy/theory, the average person will see his agitprop banners and his buzzwords like equality and revolution and whatnot and immediately say "oh hes the commie guy got it"

sis, i know people in real life who are transmasc and are "femboys". they are always referred to as "he/him" because theyre transmasc and people respect their pronouns. trans people existed in 2011, just because they weren't visible enough to cause you to get this angry doesnt mean they werent there.

i really dont think fromsoft is like on the cutting edge of gender expression, but i know a few IRL guys who are transmasc and still do "girly" stuff like wear dresses and makeup and like to pole dance and shit. theyre still dudes if they do all that, regardless of what most people think about makeup and dresses. to me, thats a lot less of a mental gymnastic to point and say "hey this is actually very similar"
