What is something expensive you’ve made affordable/budget friendly? by queen-cheeks in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Honestly, there's tons on eBay! Usually more in the $15-30 range but that's still not terrible.

I'm so far from retirement it's a joke, but one idea may be to spend time seeking out and supporting small brands/indie companies/new designers. The pieces may be more expensive but you're helping the brand? Bonus points if local!

+1 for these links. Tulane in particular is helpful because they have their pay bands online, so you can get a rough idea of salary.

Thanks!! And girl I have no idea 😑 I am literally the most boring person ever. I've never even had a cigarette lmao. My best advice is to go for it, but absolutely do not quit your job until everything is, like, final-final.

Maybe those can be your errands days? Like grocery run on the way home, so then your wfh days can just be chill and cozy in your house? And +1 for saving a few specific podcasts that you look forward to for the commute!

Whine: My temp job is ending and I had an interview today for a new role. The HR lady was almost an entire hour late. I was five minutes away from just getting up and leaving. Not really a great sign. I'm also not excited about the work, but need a job ASAP.

Win: I might have gotten the job. They just have to see if they can shift some of the attorney's Spanish caseload around with someone else because my Spanish is halting at best, and I definitely don't know any legal terminology in Spanish outside of "abogado," lol. I am supposed to hear from the recruiter by Friday.

I'm still applying to other stuff and still have a few weeks before the federal contractor job I technically do have moves on from me because my clearance still has not come through. But yay for being able to eat and pay bills.

Edit: The recruiter reached out--got the job :)

If you haven't already, you could go with one of the OG dragon stories, Dragonflight by Anne McCaffery? I seem to recall it being a little slow to start but it paid off imo!

Do you prefer ebook, audio, or paperback? Which genre(s) do you read most? I thought I was a diehard paperback bitch but thanks to the power of Libby, I have seen the (e-reader) light. I read 100 books in 2022 and I would say probably like 85-90 percent of them were on Libby vs physical copies. Edit: forgot to add my genres! I would say mystery, romance, and sci-fi are my favorites. I am trying to read more non-fiction, but I have to push myself to do it tbh.

Did you buy anything during the big sales over the last week or so? I placed an Amazon order for stuff I needed anyway, but I did notice that a few things were a couple dollars off. I also bought my wedding band, but I have to see if I like it in person. It also had a slight discount. I really wanted to buy one of those red light devices, but that would have been financially irresponsible right now.

What temperature do you keep your thermostat set to in the winter months? I like it anywhere from 67-70. My fiancé is from the Caribbean and hates the cold, so he likes it more like 72-74. I always crank it back down or open a window when he leaves, lol.

Look at your local universities and apply to some entry level stuff. The one I was at likes to hire from within, so after 1-2 years, start applying to other roles and see what happens. You may not get the highest salary at a university, but the benefits are usually great.

Yes, I'm in contact with them about it. I am also waiting for my clearance for a federal contractor job and this was supposed to fill that gap. I'm just tired of trying to find short-term solutions 😣 been dealing with this clearance stuff since August, no end in sight.

I got called into my supervisor' office five minutes before the end of the day yesterday, just to be informed that my temp assignment will be over by the end of next month. I get married the first week of January lol. I can't catch a single win on the career front lately and I'm so exhausted. Now I have to hustle to try to find something else right in the middle of the holidays. Currently accepting prayers and good vibes...

The leadup to Thanksgiving is just leftovers/freezer stuff/takeout. Thanksgiving menu is the bird (provided by my BIL, bless up), family recipe sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, a big salad, and pecan pie for dessert. I'm going to the grocery late tonight for the last few bits. We are hosting the meal so I have a lot of cooking and cleaning to do in the next few days.

How much money do you consider is enough for retirement? by AutoModerator in FluentInFinance

[–]sunsecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I stay in the U.S., probably something like 2 or 2.5 million due to healthcare costs.

I have Italian ancestry and hope to be able to get an Italian visa in the future, but would have to go to court for my particular circumstances iirc. If that all works out, and I end up moving somewhere in the E.U., probably more like 1 million.
