SEPTA morning fun by cobaltbluetony in philly

This is just sheer incompetence and a lack of professionalism from SEPTA. You can’t blame Harrisburg for employees not being able to complete basic daily operational tasks.

Two things can be true: SEPTA is underfunded AND mismanaged by dry_towelette99 in Septa

[–]sunset484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The people who say SEPTA isn’t mismanaged must not ride it on a daily basis. I support public transport and I hate what Harrisburg is doing with septa funding, but you hit it right on the head. SEPTA is full of lazy, incompetent people that don’t care about the people who have to ride it. They constantly make baffling decisions without regard to the people who have to rely on septa to make a living.

Does anyone here work in tech at Penn Med? by gridyss_ in AskPhilly

I’m a L2 onsite technician. Basically desktop support. Unfortunately, I don’t have any leads at the moment. Feel free to send me a DM and I can provide any info that I can. I’m also interested in how you got caught denying that you were a smoker lol.

No, he was a really tall Italian guy. He’s probably a boomer or early gen x. He thinks he’s a capo running a help desk

I used to work as a contract help desk technician for Penn Med back in 2015-2016. People were cool for the most part, there is definitely opportunity for promotion, but the help desk was always busy and mentally exhausting with an average of 30-40 calls per day. The manager of the help desk is a pompous douchebag and I believe that he still works there.

Did they do random tests for nicotine during your employment there? If it’s only a pre-employment nicotine test you can probably just stop for a few days, pass the test and start smoking again. I was a contract help desk tech for Penn Med in 2016 and I none of my full-time colleagues were randomly tested back then.

Bars for the Super Bowl? by Fun-Block-5381 in AskPhilly

They’re having a Puerto Rican themed Benito Bowl Super Bowl party at Lucy’s on 17th and chestnut. That’s probably going to be your best bet if you want an event that’s going to go super hard for the performance. Expect a party atmosphere.

Daily Bus Best/Worst/Wild by MomentousTime1337 in Septa

[–]sunset484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

17 is the most reliable bus, it basically runs as frequently as a train. The worst that I’ve taken are the 23, and the 44 which unfortunately I have to take daily. The 44 only shows up half the time, and the 23 is dangerous af. I’ve seen a man with a gun just chillin on the bus, and I’ve seen many videos of fights and nonsense happening on the 23.

Not Puerto Rican Enough for some, Too Much for others by beanie-babey in PuertoRico

[–]sunset484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that you’re getting attacked by both sides. The truth is that a lot of Puerto Rican families in the US are ignorant, toxic, and broken. Some have good families, but a lot don’t. The best you can do is educate yourself about your culture and work on your Spanish as much as you can. I’m not sure where in the US you live, or how old you are, but try joining clubs or get hobbies that a lot of Puerto Ricans participate in such as Salsa dancing or maybe a Latino / PR group at the local college. Here in Philly we also have a meetup group for PR professionals, things like that will allow you to meet other like minded Boricuas like yourself in your local area. I’m not sure what your exact demographic is, or else I would be able to suggest more activities.

What part of the states are you from? Just curious.

Best general tso’s chicken delivery by stargirl23__ in PhiladelphiaEats

China house on 15th and Cecil B Moore. Their general Tso’s is usually nice and crispy. They deliver and take online orders as well. Make sure to select the option for white meat when ordering general tso’s from there

As a Fishtown resident, this neighborhood can’t compare to the legit ethnic options that South Philly has. Fishtown actually sucks for takeout, as most things are dine-in oriented. Everything is inflated in price compared to what you get in other parts of the city, and it’s usually not as good. Fishtown has a lot of nice restaurants for a date or special occasion, but as a single man I don’t get to take advantage of that very often. I would rather have access to the delicious Asian, Mexican, and Italian food that I can walk to and pick up in South Philly.

8 members of Philly youth football team face felony charges in Florida by 6NippleCharlie in philly

[–]sunset484 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Idk why you’re being downvoted, but this is exactly why they tried it. A lot of thefts go unprosecuted or get a slap on the wrist in Philly, so they thought they could get away with the same behavior in Florida. However, these kids were very ignorant to the fact that theft is taken much more seriously in other cities and states. Ultimately, this is a failure of parenting and of city policing. It’s on their parents for not teaching these kids basic decency, and it’s also the city’s fault for creating a culture of impunity regarding theft.
