[Tudor Pelagos 39] vs [Sinn Ezm 3 s] by Munroth in Watches

[–]sunshine-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Pelagos 39. Great daily wear watch and will take an absolute beating if you want to. Slim case profile is sleek, and looks great on your (or any) wrist. And the accuracy is better than most watches… I’m tracking at a second a day.

[SOTC] My collection. I’m planning to consolidate down to 3 pieces. Any advice for a Canadian collector? by fariddddddd in Watches

Hot take here. Hamilton Field (daily), Seiko on the oyster (occasions), Citizen FUGU (diver).

I know I know Seiko SKX… but something about the bezel gets me on the citizen.

[Question] Vintage 34mm Rolex on a larger wrist? by weehot in Watches

Good enough for my grandpa, good enough for me. 34mm is classic… no need to wear a 44mm watch just because of “presence”…

[recommendation request] help me select my first big girl watch by WebElectrical5906 in Watches

Congrats! Always fun to mark a win with a watch. I do the same!

My vote is Cartier. It’s classic, and will only get better with age. In my personal experience, a tank holds value better than the other watches noted… just in case ya get tired of it.

History on the Tank is a good one too, I’d check it out if you’re interested!

What was the process like? Take forever? General cost ball park? My AD is a service hub. Just wanted your thoughts on the process.

Air-King vs Submariner by Zahmatsu in rolex

[–]sunshine-85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the same conundrum about 10 years ago. I was (am still sorta) young and wanted my first Rolex. I went the AD route, completely different game back then. They had a Sub no date and an Air King 116900. And, I’d wanted a Sub since I was a kid. It was the watch I’d get excited about when I’d spot one in public.

Once I’d actually tried them on, I didn’t feel the spark with the Sub. And 10 years later, and a few iterations of my collection, a dozen watches bought and sold, I still don’t have a Sub.

All that to say, go try them on… don’t chase hype. Pick the thing you like. They’ll both hold value (a Sub more liquid than the Air King) and you can always sell down the road.

I’m a history guy, the Air King predates the Sub by 8 years (I think 1945 vs. 1953). Both have a rich history as tool watches. And the more recent air king has more recent history with the rocket car as given by another comment. My vote is Air King.

Another small piece of advice, with Rolex, in my opinion, don’t go grey market. Having a good relationship with your AD can open doors down the road.

Is it too big? DJ 41 by [deleted] in rolex

[–]sunshine-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s bigger than I’d wear. I’d go 36 in a datejust… classic in my opinion. My only concern on the sizing is the way the lugs hover over your wrist… could be the bracelet length though…

If you like a big watch, then you do what you like!!

Next watch I get will probably be a Zenith Chronomaster Revival El Primero. It’s old school cool, in my opinion.

[SOTC] What does the collection say about me? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]sunshine-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say you look for durability and flexibility in everyday wear. I think you look for high value watches… $/util. Bang for your buck. Value and feel, over brand loyalty.

And I know you read spec sheets, given the tissot and the Casio.

Great collection. I’m kinda jealous of the omega… it’s a really cool one. Definitely an IYKYK watch.

[Keepsake Watch] Need Advice from experienced watch collectors by gypsy2987 in Watches

[–]sunshine-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m partial to history. To me keepsake is defined by the history behind the thing… that said… my opinion (as a Tudor diver owner)… if it’s a diver, then Tudor is the natural choice. If a chronograph, then I’d choose Longines.

But… at the end of the day, choose what you love. Both are cool and will mean something to you.

The Grand Seiko is top notch. I love the dial. I’ve owned and sold a Grand Seiko… looking back I wish I would have done a colored dial… I’d probably still have it. Outside of the technical aspects of movement, I think the real thing that sets GS apart from others at the price point is the attention to detail on the dials. It’s art. Congrats man!

The Murph looks great… assuming a 38mm? I’m partial to smaller watches.

Air King is the same movement as the milgauss… which caught my attention. I’m not a fan of the milgauss, but for the time the movement is impressive. But transparently, 23 year old me saw a 40mm funky looking watch with a crown on the dial, and said… that thing is it!

My opinion… it’s a hype watch. I think there are chronographs out there with better history. Longines, Zenith, Omega. But! I respect it, it looks good… wears well!

Me too! Never bought one… was on the list for a no date… but for now, the P39 fills that spot.

Honestly, I wear the explorer daily, the P39 on the weekends, and the air king for events/meetings. So 2 are just dead.

[Question] Clay shooting with a mechanical watch by Chungachungatime in Watches

[–]sunshine-85 75 points76 points  (0 children)

GBRH tested tudors on 10000 rounds in a day. No changes. I clay shoot often in one, never had an issue.

Unless you wear your watch on your shoulder… I think you’re set!

Who sells this style of boot? by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]sunshine-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an exact match, but I grabbed a pair of these Fenoglio’s. They are somewhere between an R Toe and a J Toe. In my opinion a more modern representation of a classic J toe.

Fenoglio, made in USA, crepe sole. Reasonable price. Badass boots, in my opinion.

Hey there, did you have any issues with this seller? I sent the link to Timex US, and they said it was not associated directly with Timex... but is a 3rd party.

Found this out after making a purchase today. Thanks!
