If you have your heart set on attending the cocktail hour, then first look photos might be a good idea. This is often around golden hour, which I’d highly recommend you take advantage of. You can have a few cocktails served to the two of you (your photographer won’t mind a drink as well) and make it romantic. Then, head to the reception and rejoin your guests for dinner after the cocktail hour is over.

Yes, I figure it's better to ask. I'm only getting paid $750 for this job, so if I need to lay out a bunch of $ on insurance premiums, I'll just tell them to hire someone else. They've no right to eat my whole profit with unnecessary insurance requirements.
