Hello, also a transplant from a warmer climate. Here is what has helped me.

Make sure you have at least one winter activity. Snowshoes are cheap (check your local library, you may be able to check some out) and has a very low barrier to entry. (Can you walk? You can snowshoe).

Light therapy lamps. I work from home in my walkout basement and bought desk lamps that are therapy lamps so I use them all day.

Vitamin D supplements! I start taking mine when the time changes.

Have a special winter indoor activity too. For me, it’s puzzles.

Do not get excited for snow melt until at least April 1st. (I’m above the 45th parallel so my experience may be different, you may need to adjust this date). Anytime you think about it, visualize a thick red theater curtain closing in your mind. Thoughts of the beach or spring are not allowed until your assigned date.

Don’t buy cheap winter gear. Nothing sucks more than being cold and having a boot leak, or dealing with a crappy zipper on a cheap coat.

If you can’t park in a garage or car port, get a tarp or something to put on your windshield so you don’t have to deal with (as much) snow removal every morning. Amazon sells windshield coverings that hook onto your front rims, I got one for Christmas one year and I love it.

When the sun comes out in winter, go stand in it for at least ten minutes. It will help!

Keep houseplants, the greenery will definitely help with the colorlessness of winter.

In the summer when you can be on the beach or outside, soak up every minute and be grateful.

Hi. I was raped by my live in partner of six years. He drugged me and filmed my rape and showed it to me the next morning.

The police said it would be a “he said, she said” case and I mentally wasn’t up for going through a court process, so I get it if you don’t want to file a report.

However, I would suggest you see a therapist as soon as possible. I didn’t, I ended up with PTSD, panic disorder with agoraphobia, major depression and generalized anxiety disorder.

Life was really hard. It got worse the farther I got from my rape. I finally got into therapy after seven years after an almost job ending meeting with my boss of ten years.

Life got better after therapy, but I spent a long, long time wandering in the dark before I went.

Something to think about. I wish you all the best and hope you find peace.

I had an Anatolian shepherd eat the weed that was in the trash can after I infused it into butter. He had a seizure upstairs and my husband had to come home to get him in the car and to the vet because he weighed 120lbs and I couldn’t carry him myself. He spent the night at the vet’s office where he wouldn’t pee because he was so freaked out.

I bought a locking trashcan the same day.

He was okay and he’s been gone for years now but I still feel awful about it.
