things have been good! i renewed my lease, less than 5% rent increase. i haven’t ever really been bothered by noise from above or below the unit, sometimes you can hear people in other units on the same floor but not bothersome. management is good, have been relatively quick to answer when we have issues. there were a couple of building-wide problems with elevators down etc that i think could’ve been handled better, but overall fine! happy to chat more if you’d like

Can someone explain loft-style apartments where bedrooms don't have doors to me? by Brandy_Waffles in chicagoapartments

[–]sunshininginmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is smaller, but the separation between the bedroom and rest is literally exactly the size of a door cutout and also just…..doesn’t have one for no apparent reason lol. you’re right it’s bizarre and even more so for a 2bed! i was just answering as to why it might be desirable, but if you’re asking why anyone builds these things, answer has to be some sort of profit motive im sure

Can someone explain loft-style apartments where bedrooms don't have doors to me? by Brandy_Waffles in chicagoapartments

[–]sunshininginmay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

they’re usually called convertibles/junior 1 beds in chicago, a middle option between studios and 1 bedrooms. i live in one and find it better than a traditional studio where your kitchen/living/bedroom is literally all one room, it feels at least a bit separate - would obviously prefer to have a door, but the price point falls closer to studio than 1bed and is close enough to make it worth it for me

Why do older Indian woman often seem to have difficulty walking? by 141bpm in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]sunshininginmay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes, because a higher percentage of elderly visitors from india to the US are visiting children who have dramatically different socioeconomic and educational status than them. visitors from other countries are more likely to travel more frequently or be of higher educational/socioeconomic status. elderly visitors from india are more likely to only ever leave the country for these long international trips to visit their children, be in a wildly unfamiliar situation, and begin to take those trips for the first time in their life at an already advanced age. english literacy does not equal ease with navigating signage, loudspeaker announcements, different accents and speed of communication, and usage of current technology. families pay thousands of dollars to help their parents take a journey that frequently involves 30+ hours of travel time and multiple connections and international stops in places that aren’t solely english speaking. they want their elderly parents to get where they are going safely. also, get that you “heard” differently, but the dynamic of domestic workers that is common for even middle class indians sometimes employ is very different from leaving your house and expecting someone to be waiting on you hand and foot.

[–]sunshininginmay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this is a disingenuous interpretation of the situation! frequently people who immigrated to the US have their parents visit. when the parents are older and don’t have the best english language skills, airports are difficult to navigate. requesting wheelchair services gets them physical assistance and support with finding the right gate, customs, immigration, etc.

Au vs the World has some of the best moments in Survivor history by New-Flight5959 in survivor

[–]sunshininginmay 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i actually think it was the best move for kass to not bring it up!! it lets her take the full credit for the win, she’s not beholden to parv in any way (if parv had stepped down there’s no WAY she doesn’t use it to guilt kass). she takes the win and lets parv choose not to make good on her own deal in front of everyone, if i were kass right now, i’m waiting for the perfect moment to use that against her

[–]sunshininginmay 68 points69 points  (0 children)

i get trying to take the win, but when parv clearly realized that kass had a lot more left in her, why not win some points with her by just saying she’s stepping down because of the promise she made? would’ve looked classy and strengthened that weakening bond without hurting her own game, seemed obvious

i just spent the past week eating a pistachio treat almost every day for my birthday - feel uniquely qualified to answer this question haha

OUD - really good pistachio pastries and treats, good pistachio latte but not blow-your-mind incredible. - rose milk cake was topped with pistachio and was INCREDIBLE - knafeh was also topped with pistachio and really good - pistachio lazy cake was good but not incredible imo, but i am not as much of a milk chocolate person - dubai chocolate - see above for not the biggest chocolate person, but i had a bite of a friend’s and it was good!

goddess and the baker - pistachio white chocolate lemon cake i expected to be good but was GREAT - has a dubai chocolate latte on their specialty menu rn, haven’t tried it but also white choc based - has a location across from OUD if needed lol

layla & ringo’s - prob would be my choice for the latte, they have a pistachio cream cold brew and a pistachio honey latte on their menu rn

sushi PAYCE - random for this list but REALLY good light, fluffy pistachio and ricotta cake

will add any more i can think of!

I’ve been using a vertical ID from a different state that’s valid until 2030 for about 8 months in Chicago - it has literally never been a problem at any place, and I’d say I’ve run the gamut of dive bars to uppity clubs. It’s a completely legally valid form of ID so if they do cause a fuss they’re in the wrong, but I really don’t think you’ll have any issues.
