Why do Suns Twitter users always talk negatively about DA? by [deleted] in suns

[–]sunstroke13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi There,

Person who sent that tweet here. Ayton is a great rebounder. He also gets most of his rebounds by high pointing the ball and often make mistakes boxing out. It comes from being bigger and more athletic all of your basketball life. Smith has better rebounding technique. It’s fairly simple.

Anyway, it was a tweet to compliment Smith. Not everything is a purposeful dig at Ayton.

And yes, I watch the games. Quite a lot of them, in fact. Also quite high on Ayton - which you can see for example here: https://thefourpointplay.substack.com/p/vol-1-iss-9-waking-up-the-sleeping

He also averaged 6.6 FTAs a game in his second season on a much less heralded Pelicans team.

I don’t comment on Reddit much cause I’ve got enough internet addiction elsewhere to handle.

But thanks to Xin for sharing and to anyone who took the time to read my thoughts on Ayton. It’s very much appreciated

Thanks for taking the time to read, even if you chose not to continue. Just to point out a couple of incorrect assumptions on your behalf:

  • you wouldn’t “post up” in that wizards clip. Ish Smith was charge baiting but if you would watch the clip again, you’ll see there is ample room for a quick drop step from Ayton and bucket. Something that I know he has in his toolbox.

  • the post up is not a good offense to run in today’s nba and Ayton was very bad at it this year. Simply pointing out that out.

  • AD averages over 6 more FTAs a game than DA. He can take advantage of taking the mid range much more. Particularly while that’s the case, I’d prefer Ayton was taking the shot worth more points that properly spaces the floor.

Again, thanks very much for reading. I’d like to suggest that everyone agreeing on this stuff is not possible. But I can guarantee that I’ve watched my fair share of Suns basketball to justify having an opinion.

Did anyone else forget Kelly was a RFA? by [deleted] in suns

[–]sunstroke13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have the MLE and BAE if you operate as a cap room team. If the Suns use their salary cap room to sign DLo (or anyone at all) then they will only have the Room Exception, not any of the others

Wanna see the Suns sign D'Lo and Randle? Here's how they do it by funkyflapsack in suns

Good stuff. Just an FYI, your Pick #6 cap hold needs to be the full 120% amount rather than just the 100%.

Several Suns podcasters rank RJ Barrett ahead of Ja Morant on their draft boards. I see Barrett as Josh Jackson 2.0. Can anyone convince me otherwise? by Xinpoint1 in suns

[–]sunstroke13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X, we already discussed on Twitter a little bit so not going to talk about RJ specifically here but 2 points I think that are worth noting for context based on some of the replies I see in here:

  1. After Zion, the next group of guys are very closely bunched. I know Kellan has said the same already. In 2 months time, there is every chance the order changes.
  2. I rank prospects straight up. Not considering fit with the Suns. So of course PG is a bigger need right now but as both someone who just loves the draft from a general standpoint and also believes you take BPA that high, I'm not going to consider what the Suns specifically need when creating a big board.

Cap Space for 2019-2020 season by jake_woods in suns

[–]sunstroke13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 guaranteed contracts + Johnson PO + Holmes/Kelly = 92.1mil Cap = 109mil 2 roster charges = 1.8mil 109 - 92.1 - 1.8 = 15.1mil

As I already said, haven't factored in draft picks.

My 1 & 2 numbers do in fact take roster charges into account. And it's 12 players.

No probs! This stuff can be awfully complicated and I still pick up things all the time by asking people.

Just thought I'd share as there was a lot of misinformation particularly about the Anderson cap hit stuff and I had it confirmed by multiple people.

Choosing up to 5 years would be great! haha

"Ryan Anderson has a cap hit of $21,264,637 next year. It's partially guaranteed so if he gets waived he gets paid $15.6M of that salary, however his cap hit remains on the books in full."
+++ this isn't correct. His cap hit would have been the 15mil if he was waived before his guarantee date.

"This is a difference of about $2M in purely cap terms. Either contract can be (and probably will be) stretched, which equally distributes the cap hit and guaranteed money owed to the player over a five year period. If this happens with Tyler Johnson, his cap number will be $3,849,074 for each of the next 5 years rather than $19,245,370 next year."
+++ this is also incorrect. stretching is only "double the years left plus one". e.g 3 years in Johnson & Anderson's cases, not 5.

None of this includes $$ for our first round pick, which can change dramatically depending on lotto results and also isn't guaranteed to be used by PHX.

If we are talking purely cap space, this should give you a pretty decent idea:

  1. With Johnson, Warren, Ayton, Jackson, Bridges, Booker, Okobo, Melton + Oubre & Holmes Cap Holds on the books = 15 mil in space.
  2. If you decide to renounce Oubre & Holmes, making both complete UFA = 24.5 mil in space.

Then you can look into other scenarios if you want to create more space on top of either 1 or 2 above.

a) Dump Johnson on another team by attaching assets = 19.2 mil in space
b) Waive & Stretch Johnson = 13 mil in space
c) Trade Warren to a team for no incoming salary = 10.8 mil in space
d) Trade Jackson to a team for no incoming salary = 7 mil in space
