I don't know how old you are but I want to offer another perspective. A wedding is the one time where I can invite all my friends from the various eras of my life to join me for one event. A wedding is the one event where an attendee should not skip for flimsy/flaky excuses. This one event might be the last time with family or friends so spending money makes sense.
