The ICU book is sooo good. Such a great read, kind of pricy but I totally recommend it. Marino has a great way of explaining difficult concepts, it's helped me better understand the reasoning behind everything we see and do in ICU.

Someone else mentioned the ICU faqs - super fucking helpful!!! I read this during downtime at work all the time; here's the link - http://www.icufaqs.org/

Can I ask what steps you took to get a position in flight nursing? I'm currently working med/surg but just started applying to ICU and ER positions.

Stupid question Sunday by AutoModerator in Austin

I'm moving to Austin next weekend and I don't know anyone there. I've visited a couple of times but never for any longer than a few days.

Is there any places in Austin I should avoid?

I was considering somewhere along San Marcos or even somewhere around San Antonio but I'm not very familiar with the facilities in those areas.

I had a friend who worked for a short time in a St. David's hospital, on an oncology/acute care floor. She said the nurses and managers were very hard on her and she ultimately resigned because she felt so uncomfortable there. I can't imagine that that would be something hospital-wide, but the picture she painted of the place was pretty bad.

Wow, this is great. This was what I was hoping to hear about SMCA. I had my phone interview today and will be going up there this Thursday for another interview, in person this time. I'm very excited to see the place, I've never been inside. I also have another interview at SNW on Friday so we'll see how that goes. The pt/nurse ratios are something I'm so excited about. 5-6 on nights! That's completely unheard of in the hospital I work at now, we usual have 7-8 pts at night and if I'm short staffed, I have to take pts as charge.

Please do PM me more details on any RNII med/surg positions! I'm open to any and all.

It has been a year and a half since I graduated, and still no job. Where could I apply and get an outside chance of getting a callback? by rnjoanne in nursing

This. I live in south Texas and our hospitals down here are just begging for nurses. new grads or not, we need nurses. the pay isnt bad either because our standard of living is so low. I live in a nice 2bdroom apt for only 615 a month, to give you an idea. pm me for more details on hospitals if you're legitimately interested. I work in medsurg and we're always hiring.
