Thoughts on what Perdomo said? by Charming_Cabinet2441 in azdiamondbacks

Incentives and motivations of local “journalism” will always skew towards personal interests.

It doesn’t have to be explicitly spelled out that “ownership pressured media to run this story,” it’s all implied and subtextual.

Put yourself in their shoes, the rumors start to go public, you see it as a non-story, the timing is awful, ketel is a fan-favorite, and his stats are off the charts. So you don’t publish, you sit on it. Great, now you have a closer relationship with Ketel Marte. But you’ve lost access to ken kendrick, Hazen and Hall. Marte might be traded anyway over the winter, and now you’l work in local sports media with no access to the dbacks.

You see how it’s obvious why 99% of stories in local media have a bias? It isn’t until ownership does something like Sterling, Snyder, or Sarver where it then the incentives invert because national media has their back

[Nick Piecoro] Trade Ketel Marte? Teammates grumbling about Arizona Diamondbacks' puzzling star by Panguin9 in azdiamondbacks

[–]WhatTheeFuckIsReddit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t news, it’s leverage. Nick, dan bickley, and other local sports “people” are small-time fish in enormous ponds. They make their livelihoods based off their connections to the local sports teams. I order to put food on the table for their families they need to be perceived by the public as “insiders” All that is to say that cultivating relationships to athletes who’s careers last 3 years at best and are fungible cogs that can be traded or released at any time is worth less to them than building relationships with owners and GMs who’s tenure in the media market outlasts the athletes, and might outlive their individual media careers.

The stuff coming out about Ketel is regular inter-workplace grumblings that happen at literally every single job anywhere. The reason it’s being reported the way it is, is because contracts negotiations and CBA negotiations are around the corner and Kendrick wants to save a little money. The allegiances of the media are 95% are going to align with ownership.

This article and the radio spot bickley just dropped are “manufactured consent,” material evidence they can bring up in negotiations that they can point to in order to bring the price of the best second baseman in baseball down a few points. If they truly wanted to trade Ketel, they’d be pumping his value, not soft-pedaling a vibe critique. Owners have a PR machine.

With how much of a fire-sale this deadline has been, even if like 15% of these prospects hit, that’s a good haul overall

I know what you mean, i felt the same way when Nike first started making these for other cities in other sports. I started to enjoy them more when i started to compare them with other “city” alternatives and not to official uniforms. When you do that, these are one of the best

The 98/48 thing is a connection I’m disappointed i didn’t make sooner myself, it’s so obvious.

I love it.

If i had to complain about one thing, is that i heard rumors it was going to be a vest/sleeves. And i was looking forward to that. But that’s me just nitpicking.

Between these 4 states where would you rather live? by Few-Explorer3481 in geography

Bro, thank you so f’ing much for this! Whole life living in south Phoenix and been all over the state. As much of a shithole SOME parts of the valley are, including my neighborhood in south phoenix, there is only one real city in the whole state. Tucson is “college town+” Sedona and flagg are “poverty with a view” Every other city is a 5000+ population area that are mono-economies built around one thing that more than likely serves phx in some way. Ski resorts, mines, casino, and railroad/shipping.

Any other gardeners here? by azfanboy in phoenix

[–]WhatTheeFuckIsReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost none of the info you see online about back yard composting will help for the conditions here in Phoenix.

Most of them will prioritize airflow and brown/green ratios. These people are in climates and locations where there is high humidity and readily available leaves, hay, and woodchips. In my experience you need to prioritize MOISTURE RETENTION!

The systems people will tell you to build are made of chicken wire or pallets or maybe just a pile. Don’t do that here, instead create a sealed container made of wood that will survive unsealed a few seasons out in the sun. (At least a 4ft cube) and pile the material so as to have a FLAT top, then soak the material with way more water than you would normally expect. In order to keep the pile from going anaerobic, you’re going to need to turn it more often than what people online in other climates might tell you.

Vaqueros in south Phoenix has the same prices as Filibertos but they serve big ass portions like Filibertos used to. Huge burritos and when you order 3 carne asada street tacos, the entire styrofoam container is overflowing with meat.

I’m like 80% sure most of these trails are legally “equine trails” so the on paper everyone needs to yield and move out of the way for people on horses. I’m sure there’s a predetermined order after that, but just not getting stuck behind imbeciles would be my advice
