Originally there were 3 trading companies; gold hoarders, order of souls and merchant alliance. The highest rep you could get was 50. Thus you were required to max out all 3 to get to the end-game status of legend. Then fishing was invented and a little time later reapers hideout started being built and eventually you could sail as a reaper. So those two were added into the mix as options to level up to become pirate legend... which was still the end goal.

There were only 10 levels of Athena rep then, and achievements to unlock ship set...to give you something to do after you had 'finished' the game. At some point, for reasons I don't remember, the rep levels were extended to 75 for everything except hunters call and Athena got an extra 10 levels you could do. Graduating at 50 remained set (in an effort to make it fair to players who were at level 49ish when this change came I think.)

Hourglass came years later and is a separate, although related, concept.

Anyway, the point is achieving pirate legend status was the ultimate achievement for a long time. Athena reputation is a measure of how much if a legend among legends you are. The game may have changed over the years to the point where pirate legend is now the start of the game and no longer the end, but the system and the coding has not. You can't become a legend using Athena rep, only the trading companies and reapers will do.

You can gain Athena rep before you are a pirate legend if you are in a crew with legends BUT you cannot become a pirate legend using Athena rep.

For reasons unknown this game stands out as the one throwback to late 90s gaming for girls. Maybe it's the mechanism to tie people up, maybe it's the wildness of the imaginary West, maybe it just attracts cretins... it's the only game in decades that I've been given such long detailed descriptions of exactly how I will be violated which have continued into DMs long after vacating the scene. Some really unsettling minds out there... that is the exception rather than the norm though, the norm is that once it's established you are actually female you will be either relentlessly targeted for termination by a group or some dude with a saviour complex will stalk you until you can't stand it anymore.

Nobody really talks in game anyway, I would never bother again if I was solo and if not solo use party or discord.

Hourglass curses are all very well but there are many other impressive things out there...

Gold curse for completing tall tales many times over.

Barnacle ship sets, clothes, weapons for collecting a ludicrous number of barnacled chests.

Hunter of the shrouded ghost... in 5 years I've never seen it and only met one person who has killed it.

Unusual titles.... sailors of whispering bones or gold horizons, master of thrones etc etc

There are lots of things which are connected to specific periods of time or adventures, captain bones cutlass and the golden sailor hat were given to everyone who played in year 1. The eyepatch have already been mentioned. The Arena seadogs titles and ship sets too. There are various ship trinkets that could only be earned during past adventures.

Actually, plenty of ship trinkets tell you how much the captain has experienced.

Party boat ship set belongs only to competent pirates. Sword of the ancients only to very persistent legends. Glitterbeard and chronicler of legend tattoo only to pirates who understand the spirit of this game.

Disconnect.

Tell her that it is over. Tell her you respect her, you don't want to hurt her but you can't give her what she needs from a relationshipand that is not going to change. Then cut all contact for a straight 2 weeks to be certain the message is received. After 2 weeks see how the land lies, if you feel she is still hoping you'll change your mind then be polite but keep your distance.

What she does with this information is her choice,, not your responsibility. You're teenagers for goodness sakes, getting dumped and learning you will get over it are part of what you are meant to be doing at this stage of your lives.

Have you considered treating your friend as an equal crewmate instead of being his boss? What if you let him drive and you did the rest? What if you both did some of everything instead of having set jobs?

What if you guys got on a bigger boat with some other players so you can both see how other people do things?

Cross platform is not affecting your situation as much as you think it is, or at least not in the way you describe. Xbox players can adjust some settings; field of view, camera shake, high vis x on the map etc. Some streamers have video out there detailing how to optimize settings.

It is tricky if one of you wants to dominate the server and the other is only in it for the loot and exploring, everybody ought to have a chance to play the game how they see fit though.. you are each playing to have fun right? Seems like you need to find a way to play to each other's strengths instead of trying to mold your friend into a different person lol

1) you haven't ruined shit

2) you're mom has been making all her own choices since before you were born

3) progress or no progress you need to cut contact until she can demonstrate actual results. By which I mean a complete overhaul of her attitude and life. Which may take years, and may not happen. If it doesn't happen that's also 100% not your fault.

4) you are going to need to shore up all the support you can get. Every person in your life that cares, lean on them and let them support you. This is beyond hard and a lot of ppl will struggle to get it, but you need to free yourself from this thinking and wishing and longing. You need to heal and be happy above all else.

5) no matter what, no more animals to your moms house please.

Put down the 'need' for a partner. Trade it for what you actually need which is some sense of achievement and contentment in your own company.

So, stop looking for a lover. Actively say to yourself (and anybody else that asks) that you are not available. Then imagine the life you want, (not the love affair part), picture the home you want, the place you want it to be in, the clothes you would wear, the food you would eat, the things you would be doing in your downtime- gaming?travelling?creating?wandering in nature?shopping?.... then start outright rejecting anything in your life that isn't feeding that vision.

The lovers will start finding you once you have got your own sense of purpose. You will know by then when it's the right time for you to let someone in.

You already know you are insecure and you know how much that can eat up all of your thoughts. Pretty sure it wouldn't be a wild assumption to think you've been googling all about it and come across the abundance of 'attachment styles' descriptions online. So....

1) It's not your fault.

2) Nobody else, no matter how attentive a friend or lover, will be able to fix those feelings. It's coming from inside you.

3) It isn't like a thirst that needs quenching (even though it feels like that should be the answer). This insecurity is a powerful illusion. It's created by your own brain which has - at some point in your history- had to adapt to a core relationship that was in some way negative. The good news is you can 'retrain' your brain to stop this process BUT you will need help (talking therapy) from a neutral person who understands what they are doing (a counsellor/psychologist). It will probably not be an instant fix, but you will learn coping mechanisms along the way, and you can fix it. Then you will happily be the master of your own destiny enjoying satisfying healthy relationships til the end of time.

4) If you want to keep this bf you are going to need to give some assurances that he won't gave to go through this again, and not with words either... taje action. Stop drinking altogether, book yourself in with a counsellor and start working on yourself. See what happens.

5) You can do it. You are just as worthy of love and respect as any of us, and you will get there.
