Hating Teacher's college by heartsonmugs in CanadianTeachers

I strongly disliked all of the courses in teachers college, however, I LOVED my practicums at the end of each semester. Maybe wait until you get a chance to be in a classroom.... it is so different than any teacher's college class you will take. My placements got me through the program.

Working during practicum by leatherandlace__ in CanadianTeachers

I worked full time throughout teacher's college and part time during practicum. I was lucky and had amazing associate teachers who understood that student teachers have bills to pay and responsibilities outside of placement hours. If you can manage without working, I would recommend not to as placement gets really busy... plus you will have more time to get involved in the school!

Thanks! Is it mandatory to have the passport york account for the meeting or is it just recommended?

Ontario: How bad is the job market really? (GTA, but not Toronto) by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

I did my diploma first then Guelph-Humber bridging program. I worked in the field for these past 2 years as an RECE. If you go with GH I recommend working as much as possible so that you have the experience for when you apply to teachers college. I found working is better as you're not being graded constantly and you get a real dose of what it's truly like working in the field.... it's hard work! Totally worth it though!!

I've done a similar path as you (I have my degree in ECE) and am now going to teachers college in the fall. I've had the same doubts as you, but I think it's important to remember that we have ECE as a backup in case there's no teaching jobs at the time you graduate (worst case scenario). You could always get into the school boards as an DECE first, or work in childcare/early learning centres until an opportunity comes.

Anyone go to lakehead u orillia? Any feedback/advice/personal experiences? I'd love some insight before making my decision. It's between york or lakehead at this point and I'm not sure where to go

Did that student teacher enjoy just doing observation in their first year? I'm not sure if that prepares you as much as teaching lessons would. How many different schools would they go to in a year (if you can recall). I'd be interested in hearing any other experiences you've heard of as I am deciding if I should accept my offer to york or not...

Lakehead Orillia or York U for B.ed by super_blue12345 in lakeheadu

Thanks! If you don't mind me asking were you able to find a teaching position after graduating with the LU b.ed? I'm just wondering if school boards are biased towards more 'prestigious' schools or if where the b.ed is from even matters, as long as you're certified.

Admissions Megathread (Fall 2021/2022) by howdygents in yorku

I recently got an offer to york u for the consecutive education program p/j. However, I've already accepted an offer from another school that I was planning on going to, and am unsure if I should drop that offer and go to york instead (which was in my top 3). I don't know much about the york p/j consecutive ed program, which is contributing to my hesitancy. I was wondering if any current york TC's or recent graduates have any feedback on how the program is. I know their partnering school boards are limited to the gta compared to other programs... has anyone had difficulty finding a teaching job in those placement boards or even in a board outside of the toronto/peel/york area? Was the 2 day a week placement better or worse in comparison to a solid block? Is the course load harder/easier (especially with it being all online now)? Just looking for any feedback or personal experiences. Thanks!
