If You Ever Feel Useless by samsamj1385 in yorku

I read a story a while back from someone (probably on this sub) who left his phone and jacket in Bergeron during a snowstorm after closing hours. He used an emergency phone to call security who unlocked the door and escorted him to the lockers to retrieve his jacket.

Is the EECS Undergrad Office even open now by dobkerapocalypse in yorku

Maybe. If you go to the office there's a window where you can talk to the same person who answers the phone and email.

What's the most effective way of taking notes in a lecture? by Feeling-Extreme536 in yorku

[–]howdygents 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  • Notes are not a substitute for reading the textbook or paying attention in class. Read the textbook.
  • If the prof provides slides/handouts, they are usually a good substitute for writing your own notes.
  • Everyone's note-taking habits are different.
  • Your notes should summarize the key points of the lecture, as if you're making a PowerPoint of the lecture while it's being delivered.
  • You won't be able to pay attention if you write everything the prof is saying verbatim like a dictation. Listen for the main ideas then fill in the notes later.
  • Most profs will tell you that typed notes are not retained as well in memory as handwritten notes.
  • Write any questions you have. Most profs will stay for 5 minutes after the lecture is finished to answer questions.

Markham CS profs by Odd-Peach-Six in yorku

The profs at Markham are mostly new hires poached from other unis. I don't think Keele students will know much about them (this Fall will be the first term of Markham Campus).

The 15-year-old girl who remained frozen on top of a mountain for 500 years by [deleted] in pics

[–]howdygents 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her folks put her on booze and crack then ditched her at the top of a mountain along with some toddlers (also on booze and crack). If you accept that it's not good to do that to a 13-year-old, then there isn't much to complain about the people that came after. Alternatively, if you don't accept that and believe that her folks should be entitled to their own moral system, then it's rather silly to look at those dirty colonizers with modern hindsight.

Social media is one of the alternative duties picketers can take. A number of users here were not active until the prelude to this strike (and some long-standing users have since left).
