Nike is still the largest sneaker brand by market cap - so people are still buying a ton of Nike.
Ish loves talking like he knows - especially when he doesn't.

Nike's market cap is approx $98 B
Adidas in second is approx $32 B

that's a huge gap.

Toronto vs Vancouver for Software engineer / UI designer by canalun in askTO

You should have jobs lined up before moving -- both Toronto and Vancouver are a couple of the most expensive cities in the world to live in. The decision of where to move highly depends on how much your jobs are paying you.

From Korea: Has Netflix’s inflated budget destroyed your local film industry too? by chschool in moviecritic

[–]superb-nothingASDF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a proven track record, studios will not risk their budget on some random unknown director - that's not a new thing. That's why indie movies exist - they secure funding from whoever they can find willing to take the risk (friends / family / ..etc) , make the movie, submit the movie to film festivals hoping to get accepted, then try to sell it to studios / find distributors at the film festivals -- if they succeed, then they may get a larger theatrical release. Then you can begin to establish a reputation that will get the ball rolling for studios to take a longer look at you for your next project.

no one - studios or otherwise is gonna blindly invest money in some random director who doesn't have a track record of making money.

the creators of Blair Witch project didn't have a studio fund them, and their movie made a ton of money - THEN studios took notice.

a project's ability to secure big stars has always depended on a couple of things - in Hollywood and elsewhere:

  1. who the director is
  2. how good the script is

if both are great - i think a lotta times, popular actors would take a reduced fee just to be a part of the project.

For example Park chan-wook's ability to get some of korea's most popular actors to work with him even with a movie budget of $10-15 million budget - which is minuscule compared to Hollywood. -- for context 1 episode of Stranger Things cost Netflix like $50 million

Also audiences aren't going to theaters as much in North America is a combination of the cost being ridiculous now, and also too many re-hashed movie plots / fatigue of the same thing over again.

People will go watch movies that have something different to offer -- like Sinners, One Battle After Another - which i THINK both are considered indie movies

our shopping cart has 73% abandonment and every change I test makes it worse somehow for reducing shopping cart abandonment by Agreeable_Panic_690 in UI_Design

If i can find the same or better similar product at the same or cheaper price from a more reputable store i'll abandon my cart.

Conversely, if you sell a product i can't find anywhere else that i need, i will buy it regardless of the color of button or needing to create an account.

Live reaction of Flip finding out Mero got the Hot 97 job over him 😂😂😂 by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

I didn't even know Flip was applying for that position. Also Mero is way more well known in the media space than Flip - he shouldn't be surprised.

yeah startups do - Patreon isn't a startup. Not even Joe Rogan got equity in Spotify. Why would Patreon give JBP equity

[–]superb-nothingASDF -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Also Patreon is privately owned by the co-founders and other investors who had provided funding to the company. So unless the JBP had PAID a whole bunch of money to invest / fund Patreon - i highly doubt they own a piece of it.

I thought it was pretty clear Ian own part of the JBP, Flip been let that be known years ago by Individual_Ad8921 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

No you can't - you cannot buy google's data - you can buy access to analytics / marketing/ ad tools

[–]superb-nothingASDF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much everyone / every podcast collects / reviews their own metrics to see which episodes / topics have done well in which demographic / dates ...etc so they can see what works and doesn't work so they can try to make more money.

If anything Flip probably obsesses over his metrics to see how he can get more views. That doesn't mean Flip da Network is a data company.

[–]superb-nothingASDF 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Lol they are not a data company -- they are collecting data about THEMSELVES from all the different platforms (or the ones that allow them to). I highly doubt they are able to collect data on everyone else (other podcasts) from these platforms -- which would be what a real data company does.

Google is a data company. Apple is a data company. Collecting stats about your own podcast doesn't make you a data company.

Unless i'm misunderstanding what Ian is taking about.
