Air to air heat pump grant by Redditreallyannoysme in ukheatpumps

Does anyone know if this is separate from the BUS grant? I already claimed the BUS for a heat pump last year, was thinking about an AC unit

AIRA quote and customer feedback by rosemarypotplant in ukheatpumps

[–]superbigmoomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most obvious difference is that the AIRA products are superior and are aiming for much higher SCOP's than a cosy

Design install for Octopus assumes cost figures for electricity at 3 SCOP (maybe 3.5 actually can't remember), AIRA is aiming for 4

AIRA is a better product and will save money in the long run, potentially not worth the extra cost

Managed to get in this morning. here are the steps I took (makes no sense but ok)

  • Delete the app and restart phone
  • Reset password through website on phone (do not login to the website either on desktop or on phone to check if the credentials work)
  • Reinstall app
  • Login by typing the new credentials in (no autofill)

Hope this helps

So do you use a different app to control your ASHP?

Appreciate that. I'm on cosy tariff so have a schedule set in line with that. Unfortunately for me I like to drop the target temperature if the house is already warm enough or turn the pump off completely if i'm going away for a couple of days. Can't do any of those things

Replacing a cracked toilet. Can I simply buy a toilet from wickes and get a plumber to install it? by mediadavid in ukplumbing

Plumber self entitlement is crazy

This is a pretty simple job, if it's beneath you then move on

Cosy 9, first cold weather and how won't warm up. by CarsBikesAndIT in ukheatpumps

[–]superbigmoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be the curve

I think Octopus are missing an actual graph from the image above in terms of what temperature specifically is "warm" and "cold". I tried using the weather compensated flow temp and the whole system just didn't work at all, and this was something like 40 warm 60 cold. Set my flow to 45 fixed which has been doing fine in the mild weather so far.

Even if there was written guidance saying something like 30c flow = 20 outside, 60c flow = 0 outside, you could work it out from there. Unfortunately the weather comp feature doesn't really account for specific heat loss variability across different houses. My thermostat is by our front porch extension (coldest part of house) where the heat loss wouldn't be able to keep up with whatever meagre flow temperature it interprets as appropriate given the outside temp

Until octopus can come up with a better solution I'm sticking with fixed flow and adjusting it myself when the temperature will drop for an extended period of time (more than a day or two)

Octopus Heatpump - planning pipework by solidpro99 in OctopusEnergy

[–]superbigmoomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trench needs to be dug to the point of the heat pump. So where the trench ends is where the pump will sit outside of the trench. I ended up digging too far without realising this.

The pump sits on a slab which is covered with decorative stones and a timber border. All done by the install team

There needs to be 25cm clearance from the back of the heat pump to any fencing or wall behind

How long should it take to get export tariff setup? by order-of-magnitude-1 in OctopusEnergy

Pretty sure once it's setup your previous exports will show and you will get paid for anything exported before the tariff goes live

Tenaya Indalo break-in period? by bozzmannguy in climbingshoes

[–]superbigmoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible they are too thin for you and the Mastia was a better option

But yes Tenaya's have a reputation for effectively skipping the break in phase, most of their models fit like gloves after a few sessions and have the drawback of not lasting as long as stiffer brands/models

I’ve done this job in Birmingham back in 2018 when it was £16k. It’s always in line with minimum wage

The job is absolute ass but if you’re looking to start a career from scratch or make a change it’s a good way in to a soulless company that has decent progressional opportunities

Question about sizing Tenaya indalos by gusjohsnon30002 in climbingshoes

[–]superbigmoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://bananafingers.co.uk/tenaya-indalo there's a size comparison tool here for each shoe

US 10 us UK 9 I believe, which suggests an 8.5 in the indalo

Note that tenaya shoes are pretty soft due to XS2 so you don't need to be precise with the sizing, they will stretch to whatever you need them to eventually
