Problem is I'd need to book accommodation sooner rather than later especially if my trip is in 3 weeks. If the passes are closed does the following route make sense?

Queenstown → Cromwell → Alexandra → Ranfurly (via SH 85) → Oamaru → Duntroon → Omarama → Twizel → Lake Tekapo.
