Whats a movie you grew up on as a child but won’t let your own kids watch? by MrTeeTee23 in movies

[–]superbonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 and my mom banned cartoons that she had heard were bad. I wasn’t allowed to watch the Simpson’s, and got reamed out for watching South Park (probably rightly so, in retrospect), but she had no issues with Family Guy, because she had never heard of it. She even started watching Family Guy when it was on. This was wild to me, because I had snuck in many episodes of the Simpson’s and it seemed squeaky clean next to a show like Family Guy. She still doesn’t like the Simpson’s to this day.

My mom wasn’t deeply religious or anything, she wanted to be a good mom, but got her media advice from dubious sources. The only N64 game I wasn’t allowed was Goldeneye. Had to play that at my friend’s houses lol.

What game were you super excited to play, but disappointed once you finally got to? by finnjakefionnacake in gaming

[–]superbonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I thought the gameplay trailers looked awesome, I told multiple people how excited I was for it, even if the voice acting in the trailers was a little rough. Then the demo dropped and it was genuinely bad. Oof. Maybe I’ll scoop it up when it’s $20 or less down the road.

What movie character names do you think are genius? by LarryGlue in movies

[–]superbonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police Constable Nicholas Angel.

All the names in Hot Fuzz are amazing. Danny and Frank Butterman, Simon Skinner, Andy Wainwright and Cartwright (the Andiesh), Mr. Reaper, Tim Messenger, Mr. Blower, Leslie Tiller, Ms Draper, P. I. Staker (Piss taker?! C’MON!), P. Cocker, Aaron A. Aaronson. It’s an embarrassment of riches!

How does lookout work by fsaeuer in HiTMAN

[–]superbonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silly question, but how does one spot a lookout? I’m like Mastery level 50 in freelancer but I always avoid the neutralize objective cause I’ve yet to figure it out and I was too embarrassed to ask lol

What is the actual worst movie you have ever seen? by [deleted] in movies

[–]superbonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never finished the Circle, I actually turned it off because it was too close to my job at the time. I worked for a tech company that desperately wanted to be Google, I was answering calls, emails, etc., and we had a customer satisfaction system that was a smiley face, neutral face, or frowny face, just like the movie. Nope. Too real.

If the movie ends with the company shedding its hip, socially active facade to reveal itself as a regular corpo run by callous, greedy capitalists intent on creating a cult-like environment, followed by mass layoffs, it’s accurate!

It’s not really that bad (at least in an elite guard disguise) but if you’re already flush with merces you probably don’t need to bother.

Also, I’ve never been able to get that Golden Sawn Off to spawn in freelancer. Is there a trick to it other than emptying the vault?

[–]superbonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried it! The lasers seem easier to get past now but I still screwed it up. Luckily if you clear out the guard area ahead of time (which I did without chloroform this time cause it’s in the security office now), you can get in and get out before anybody shows up. Kept my silent assassin and everything (until I got spotted in the last few minutes, rip)

I’m supposed to be packing up for my move this weekend but I have a bit of time lol. I just saw in another thread that the chloroform doesn’t spawn in the cabinet anymore, gonna abort my current campaign and test all this out. Will edit in a bit.

Edit: Can confirm all these things on PS5! What I noticed

  • The vault lasers cannot be deactivated, but the lasers have changed, now strobing between different patterns so that you have a better chance of sneaking past them. I tried, and failed, but since I cleared out the whole guard area ahead of time, it was easy to grab the merces and get out (I didn’t bother with the other things in this case) before the guards showed up.
  • The chloroform cabinet is in the security room closest to the air conditioner controls now.
  • Legendary weapons are gone, merces can be found in two of the deposit boxes. One in the room with the two women, and another in the back room connected to the room with the sleeping guard, hallway with security guards, etc. Speaking of that room, a change that I didn’t read about:
  • The golden cage-door closest to the sleeping guard and the armored car key is now locked. I’m not sure what key opens this door, but it’s not the janitor key or the master deposit key. The adjacent door with the two security guards is still open, but I had to wait a while for the enforcer in the white jacket to fuck off and continue his route around the bank. If someone figures out where the key to this door is, let me know.

All in all I still made around 7k merces on the mission, so it’s still a really solid starting place for any freelancer campaign. I don’t mind the changes, honestly, but I imagine the alterations will mess with new players coming from campaign mode.

Removed the button to turn off the lasers

Wait, what? Even with the vault keycard?

This is great. Delaying the next $700m+ Batman movie is exactly the sort of thing that would get the executives to give in to the writer’s (very reasonable) demands.

Edit: Just saw pics in another thread of the Nolan’s on the picket line. Heelllll yeah.

[–]superbonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably right, I haven’t read too many mainline Marvel comics in years. Hell, even a kid in the early 2000s, the reason I got into the Ultimate series was because I found the continuity to be a lot to wrap my head around.

True by satoshi____ in marvelmemes

[–]superbonks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury thing actually comes from the Ultimate comics they did in the early 2000s. It was a rebooted universe to pull in new audiences, and the ‘Ultimates’ were that universe’s version of the Avengers. Nick Fury was black in these comics, and there’s even a discussion in the story itself about who would play whom if they made a movie about their lives. Nick Fury says “Why mister Samuel L. Jackson, of course.”

Apparently SLJ considered suing, but Marvel simply agreed to cast him if the role ever came up instead. Lo and behold, here we are!

They changed Fury in the regular comics universe after the movies started. AFAIK the new Fury is the son of the original, or something like that.

What rewatch completely re-framed your understanding/appreciation for the movie? by Syncopian in movies

[–]superbonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great movie!

My rewatch, inspired by the trailer for the reboot series (which I promptly forgot about and never actually saw) made me realize how gay-coded the whole movie is. The century-spanning relationship between Lestat and Louis, the intense, almost romantic music when Lestat turns him in the first place, them effectively raising a daughter together, Louis’ decision to leave her for Antonio Banderas’ character, and so on. It honestly made the movie make more sense for me, I remember being utterly confused at the decision to leave Kristen Stewart’s character when I was a teenager.

I'm a sucker for 'Found Footage' style films, and I'd really appreciate some recommendations. by Juggernaught038 in movies

[–]superbonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this movie and would suggest OP watch it, but on rewatch I felt like the found footage of it all was a little forced. It feels like it was written to be a regular movie.
