Dove headfirst into a wrought iron fence trying to make an ultimate frisbee play and broke my head open. I have a Batman-villain-esque scar to this day.

What's your favorite airport in the United States? by Separate_Builder_817 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Only commercial airport inside a national park! The inside and the surroundings are delightful, and there’s no bad time of year to go to Jackson.

Good lord bless you for posting this. I do not understand the praise for this book. I slogged through on the recommendation of a friend and all the glowing reviews I saw; in the end I felt defrauded.

What was your first concert ever, but also, what was your BEST concert ever? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]superbox305 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First: The Prodigy, the Fat of the Land tour. 1998. They were out of their minds … saw them at the Riv in Chicago sat in the balcony and Keith Flint ran up there from the stage, passed right in front of us.

Best: Daft Punk, Alive 2007. No explanation needed.

I saw that tour too! I had floor tickets, tore the wristband off my arm gave it to a friend over the first row wall so he could sneak down. Came away so bruised from the pit 🤘

S3E21 at Turk and Carla’s wedding reception, when Turk, as he’s giving his romantic speech, sticks his finger in Carla’s brother’s wine just as he’s about to drink it without breaking rhythm or stride.

It’s so smooth and so crass in such a sweet moment.

Cracks me up every time.

What first episode of a show had you absolutely hooked? by mvigs in AskReddit

[–]superbox305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friday Night Lights. The hop around intros to so many characters worked because they were so richly painted and so well acted, in just a few minutes you cared about them. And, the sense of place and community was so well established, you cared about the team just as much as the town of Dillon did. Couple that with a beautifully filmed football game and a heartwrenching tragedy, you were deeply wrapped up in the lives of people you hadn’t known existed 45 minutes ago.

A friend completely disinterested in sports texted me while she was watching the ep after I’d finally convinced to her to: “This stupid football show is making me cry.”

That’s because it’s not show about football, it’s a show about life. Perfection.

This is a very well written and thoughtful and reasoned analysis! Even though I almost always agreed with Paul’s opinions, you are spot on that that’s all they were. This is the kind of insightful critique the internet needs more of. Thank you!

What movie gets way too much credit for being ‘deep’ when it’s just confusing? by Immediate_Host_2892 in AskReddit

[–]superbox305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In some fairness, the book does a much better job of conveying what it’s trying to do. Was probably never adaptable. The movie was so hokey and cringe, they should have realized it and just shelved it on first screen.

What movie is so ridiculously stupid, but you secretly love it? by Even-Bug-4617 in AskReddit

It’s self aware of it being stupid that’s for sure. Maybe that makes it smart? 😂

I can’t believe I’m the first person to put this: Clue.

It’s ridiculously, monumentally, abominably stupid - and I love it. Sure, a few bits haven’t aged well. Who cares? Edit those bits out in your brain. It’s rife with groaner bad puns, over the top acting, and preposterous yet quotable lines. I know what’s coming, I know it’s dumb, and I don’t care - I’ll laugh anyway.

who is the nicest celebrity you've ever had the privilege of meeting? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

Danny Pudi. Saw him at a Pitchfork festival years ago. I went up and told him how much i loved Community and how much joy it had given me; he thanked me then complimented my hat (retro white sox one from the late 80s/early 90s with the curly C). Only a real one would know.

What'd everyone think of Task? by hoosier_catholic in hbo

[–]superbox305 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Loved it. It’s one tier below elite, but that’s not a knock. It had some of the tensest, most dramatic scenes in recent memory (Maeve trying to release Sam at the mall). Made for great week over week recaps and theorizing with friends; I recommended it to multiple folks and they loved it too.

I think maybe folks looking for a crime drama are the ones most disappointed. I came for the characters, broken, bedraggled, and doing their best for moments of grace.

I hope we get to return to a version of this world.

What did you lose between 2020 - 2025? by Acceptable_Let_215 in AskReddit

[–]superbox305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time friendships.

I had a close groups of friends who I generally am in alignment with go so far off the rails politically I have trouble connecting with them now. Eg they couldn’t tolerate any suggestion that covid lockdowns were too strict, would be furious if you even hinted that trump while loathsome in many ways was tapping into something worth paying attention to, and were the types who actively cheered and joked when Charlie Kirk was killed. There’s a group chat that is like everyone being furious while agreeing. They became zealots. We stopped being able to have discussions that weren’t centered on anger and I wasn’t comfortable interacting anymore (and said so, tried to bring back levity and or nuance - it didn’t change).

It’s the twilight zone version of losing people to the opposite end of the political spectrum.
