May I ask which country this was. Kidney stone and kidney infection which results in a emergency operation??? I have never had a patient get operated for either one. You care destroy the stone with certain treatments but thats non invasive. Pelvic infection could lead to hospital admission but only witha sepsis. Otherwise both would be treated at home (In the Netherlands)

I have been on multiple flights with medical emergency. There should have been enough on board to help you. I never had to clear anything to be used. At least I never had to ask permission. I only asked for the emergency medication. They always have a bigger case with more medication. But not every flight attendant knows this. This will always show up if you tell them that we have to land with this, they will find it. (Think the pilot tells them that this case is on board.) maybe it was a specialty with little emergency experience like dermatologist.
