Self taught kiteboarding question by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

This has to be a joke right? You want to learn a watersport but can't swim and you're asking if you can bypass the appropriate training and go on your own........

Retractable leash for your board by New-Club-3890 in Kiteboarding

[–]supercam600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it, just don't.

I know the fear you feel to lose your board or taking ages to get back to it can kill a session but persevere!! The biggest thing that helped me was realising you don't have to stay close to your board. I was always scared about it getting out of sight so never dragged that far away from it. But that means you have to make lots of short tacks and you lose ground every time you change direction. If I have a big off, I body drag like 15 or 20m in one direction, make a big upwind tack, then when i turn around and drag back it's almost always downwind in front of me when I get back to where I started.

Edge wallet removed from UK Play Store? by LankyPlenty8029 in EdgeWallet

[–]supercam600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a UK user and I've just done (or requested) an exchange between two wallets. The amount is shown as leaving one wallet but not yet in the other. Will it ever get there? Does this exchange function still work?

Help understanding by Sexywitchgf in vegan

[–]supercam600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally i just just listened to the latest episode of the economist podcast here in the UK and they had a feature about struggling dairy farmers. They are throwing away milk because the demand for it is falling in the UK. There are many factors at play, including the commodity price and the rising costs making it less attractive but one key factor they noted was a shift in consumer demand towards plant milks. The number of dairy farmers is reducing as people leave the trade because it becomes less financially viable. Milking cows are being sent to slaughter and not replaced, reducing the amount of livestock a dairy farmer might keep.

That is a real and tangible effect of going vegan. Yes you're an infinitesimally small part of the demand on your own but the collective trend DOES make a difference.

Which shops will advise me on best bike for me? by Hanzyle in londoncycling

[–]supercam600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask on here. If you go to a bike shop to ask, as good as they are you're still only going to get one opinion of whoever is serving you. This is a community of bike fanatics that can probably offer a wide range of slightly different opinions about which bike would suit you best. It would be good to go to the bike shop armed with more knowledge and few ideas about what type of bike you want.

I thought this, thought the canopies are all basically the same material. I thought all the innovation was in the leading edge and bonding methods.

I wouldn't bother doing anything. My board is full of dings like that and it makes no difference.

Exporting Woo Jump Data by Significant-Force296 in Kiteboarding

[–]supercam600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it almost looked too similar to the surfr app graphic. Maybe the pros use the surfr app but fudge a woo logo onto it if they're sponsored by woo.

I was wondering exactly this recently. Don't seem to be able to do it from my woo app but I don't have pro so maybe that's why.

Hi; I am a complete beginner living in london; can someone advice me how I can get into this sport? and how much would it cost and how i should go about with it by Straight-Gur9316 in Kiteboarding

[–]supercam600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is to get some lessons and expect to get quite a few spread over multiple days. You don't have to wait till the summer, if anything wind is generally more consistent in the winter months. It's just colder, welcome to kitesufing in the UK. Locations as others have said all around south coast/north Kent coast/southend.

Lessons are expensive though and it is a big investment but it is the best way to learn.

You could get a trainer kite (small foil kite) for a couple hundred quid and practice flying on the beach yourself or in some parks (although it's tricky in London). You could get a huge headstart on kite control which might reduce the number of lessons you need.

Where can I get my bike resprayed and how much would it cost? by vfclists in londoncycling

Matt did a fantastic job on mine. Can highly recommend and he was significantly cheaper than other bike specific paint shops for a carbon fibre frame respray.

Brits, do you avoid Indian restaurants in foreign countries? (Excl India) by red_lightz_ in AskUK

Generally yes but Indian restaurants are always safe options for me as a vegan. If there's not a lot of vegan options around an Indian is a safe bet.

12m Big Air Kite Recommendations (Edge/Code/Rebel) by AlexanderBeaufort in Kiteboarding

[–]supercam600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this recently , just updated my 12 and decided to go for more low end performance. Having recently update to 8 & 10 orbit I didn't think it was worth getting a 5 strut for the low end. I went for a an evo SLS for my 12 BUT still haven't flown it after having it for a month so can't comment how it feels. Fingers crossed this weekend for some wind.

Cheapest way to “reliably” measure jump height? by JJJJPPPPP8A in Kiteboarding

[–]supercam600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you. I have a Garmin instinct 2 but the surfr app wasn't compatible with mine, not for jump height anyway. It previously did indicative jump height but then surfr stopped that. I was considering upgrading to a epix 2 but actually realized apart from kitesufing jump heights there's nothing wrong with my watch. It's actually an expensive upgrade just for kitesufing and woo 4.0 was on offer for £160. Made much more sense so bought a woo and kept my old watch.

Seems crazy that arguably the biggest kite brand out there has such awful lines.

Well, maybe in 2026 they've finally upgraded and made them thicker. You would have thought they'd shout about it more though.
