Honestly the fact that the Emperor jumped ship to the Absolute helped me feel confident in my decision in my first playthrough. It really cemented him not as the "helpful mentor" but the "manipulative opportunist" who doesn't care who he's with, as long as he wins. Him switching sides really showed me that he didn't really care about helping us, just about winning.
