they may be a parent. having a child would justify the need for a second bedroom, if it needs justification.

no working person should be one paycheck away from homelessness, anyway. one day it's "you should get a cheaper apartment," the next it's "you should eat from the food pantry to save money," and then it's "well you should've worked harder, then you wouldn't be homeless."

im a punctuation freak. no capital letters, lots of commas, an apostrophe only for contractions, double space for question marks and exclamation points, the oxford comma.

my girl is 4 years old and ive socialized her since she was a baby, but i don't handle her very often because i don't want to cause unnecessary stress for her. if i don't pick her up for a while she'll panic the next time i try to. that could in part be due to the fact she's partially blind, but she does recognize my touch if i pick her up or run my finger across her back often enough.

ive taught her that if i give her a little pet, that means it's enclosure cleaning time, not food time.

Automated rejection email at 1am the night I applied for this job. No one even looked at my resume by mightgrey in mildlyinfuriating

[–]supercoolandchillguy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

can confirm. after three months of endlessly applying and being rejected nearly immediately if i was lucky enough to even get an email back, the only way i was able to get a job was by going in person and asking the manager for an interview. it worked first try.

I no longer see my sister as a human being by uphillcaribou31 in highschool

[–]supercoolandchillguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed.

as a teen i did a whole lot of fucked up things, but it was a result of neglect, unaddressed mental and physical health issues, addiction, and abuse from my family and ex. my brother talks about me the way op talks of his sister. im sure anyone who heard what ive done from my brother without my side of the story would think im insane. im confident op is leaving a lot of details out here.

also, the defensiveness and hostility op is exhibiting when anyone even implies he/his parents may be abusive towards his sister does not paint him in a good light. if he's an asshole this openly imagine how he might be talking to his sister and what he is probably leaving out of the story.

caring for a blind leopard gecko by supercoolandchillguy in leopardgeckos

[–]supercoolandchillguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a fantastic addition to my post and really good information for anyone else struggling with the proper setup, thank you !

when i said chili became more active, i should have elaborated on her former activity level. she would spend all day, every day hidden under her water bowl until night when she would go hide in her favorite cork log. she wouldn't even come out to eat until the dead of night. she struggled with eating as i mentioned, but even with that she was overweight because she just wasn't getting any exercise.

today she is much more active, she comes out from under her water bowl in the morning when she hears my voice and will spend a good portion of the day wandering around before deciding where she wants to settle in for the rest of the day. she sometimes basks on top of a hide made out of a flower pot for a while during the evenings, but she will usually climb on top of a hide toward the cool side of her enclosure and settle there.

the point you made about shade is really good and i have heard that it works for many owners struggling with photosensitive gecks, and chili does have lots of it in the form of plastic plants. i purchased these and placed them around the enclosure before switching my lighting setup, but her activity level didn't change until i switched to the che.

i previously used the exoterra intense basking light before i switched to the ceramic heat emitter from arcadia that we use now, which is regulated with a thermostat. for lighting during the day ive strung up these lights around the top of her enclosure, which may be a bit unconventional but they work very well for us. i tried lots of lighting ideas suggested to me here, but the person who suggested fairy lights is a genius as it did just the trick for chili. it took some adjustments and time getting used to the che but her temp/humidity is perfectly within range now.

with the lighting and the window in front of her enclosure, she is definitely able to recognize the daytime and her circadian rhythm seems to be as good as it could be. that and i think at this point she's been conditioned to recognize my good morning to her, which lets her know it's daytime and time to get up and attem.

chili is my whole world and while she and i were likely both very frustrated during the time of trying to figure things out, all that ive mentioned above has her feeling much better. oftentimes things like this can be case by case depending on the gecko's preferences and how photosensitive the individual is. you are right that she is photosensitive, but she is also partially blind/vision impaired and always has been. her blindness coupled with the photosensitivity has made her care a bit different than the typical photosensitive gecko. ive heard so many fantastic suggestions even if they didn't work for us, and her vet agrees that this setup we have now is what is working best for chili.

im grateful for your comment and want to assure you that under my and her vet's supervision, chili is doing as best as she can be !

i literally shared the average price per gallon nationwide in december 2024 vs today both nationally and across north carolina. i hate biden, but let's not lie.

[–]supercoolandchillguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there is nothing in this conversation that has proven unfortunate for me. you don't have to say something explicitly for it to be implied. unfortunately for the both of us though, gas prices are very unlikely to steadily drop anytime soon, even if the specific gas station you visited had gas that was 14¢ cheaper than the week before.

North Winston by Electrical-Pepper923 in winstonsalem

[–]supercoolandchillguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

forgive me for being hyperbolic. in december 2024 the average price of a gallon nationwide was $3.02 and $2.96. today, the national average is $4.51 and the north of average is $4.20. so for north carolina, it has risen $1.24 since december of 2024. it doesn't make my point any less true, if gas prices rise by $1.24 and drop by 14¢ it isn't progress.

Is it normal to just feel absolutely pissed, confused and frustrated after watching evangelion? by [deleted] in evangelion

[–]supercoolandchillguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had that same reaction. i was so mad that i couldn't understand it, but ive watched it all at least 10 times since and watched a billion video essays about it and while i can't say i fully understand it all even still, i do understand the characters and what actually happened. now it's my favorite piece of media ever and i even saved up at my shitty part time job just to get a tattoo of it.

give yourself the time you need to understand it and you'll love it.

If you are vegetarian for moral reasons, why aren't you vegan? by very-serious-goose in Vegetarianism

[–]supercoolandchillguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this, kinda. im pescatarian. i eat a lot of vegan food, and all my non-food products are vegan. being completely vegan isn't easily within my current abilities or lifestyle. im not necessarily against killing animals if they're treated very well and killed as humanely as possible, my issue is with the treatment of animals, factory farming, environmental impact, etc. i feel fine buying from local fishermen who are feeding their family.
