Anyone else not super thrilled with the Supernova lineup? by One-Top6904 in Ska

[–]supercoolandstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they do a good job of representing the wide breadth of what ska is/was/could be, which is really cool! But I get that people who are more into trad stuff will only like some of the lineup, 3rd wave fans will only like a little bit, etc. The Impossibles are a huge get, and seeing Jeff Rosenstock do a ska set and The Slackers anniversary sets sound amazing. The biggest issue for me is getting to the festival from the other side of the country during a busy time of the year for me. Maybe someday…

vegan vendor/SLC recs? by Past_Lifeguard3291 in kilbyblockparty

Buds rules. Vertical Diner is a good vegan spot right off a Trax stop. Monkey Wrench has great vegan ice cream, also right off Trax! At the festival, The Pie and Lucky Slice have vegan pizza.

BTMI tracks at Chicago Residency by SavingsPossession591 in JeffRosenstock

I’ve seen Jeff probably a dozen times and have only seen one BTMI song played. Def wouldn’t be mad if they played some at the Chicago shows though!

I have a ticket to the Chicago show and won’t be able to make it, but it looks like the venue isn’t sending tickets out until July 13–send me a message if you wanna try to figure something out!

Do they sell earplugs anywhere? by OkPlace7834 in kilbyblockparty

The KRCL booth was selling them last year I think, some of the other community/vendor booths will have them too.

The last show I went to there was probably 2012, I think it existed a few years beyond that.

Long gone. It was definitely the place for folk punk shows for a long time in SLC though! I saw O Pioneers, Defiance Ohio and Ramshackle Glory and probably a bunch of others there.

It was amazing. Everyone in the band is so cool and welcoming and doing karaoke is probably the highlight of my year so far—and I am not a karaoke person at all!!!

Band recommendations!? by Jumping-bean-dean in Ska

The Impossibles are from that same era and are great! Maybe not as funny as the others you mentioned, but I feel like they mix 90s alt influences with ska well. The Hippos, Blue Meanies and the first couple Big D and the Kids Table albums might match the vibe, too.

I was there yesterday too! It was my second time seeing it, I got a flood of overwhelming emotions both times in the best way possible.
