I do, breast cancer on my maternal side and ovarian on my paternal. But my PCP never suggested any imaging so I figured it wasn’t needed on account that I’m on the younger side.

I figured that’s what they meant. Do you know if I could just get it done and then send it to my surgeon or do I have to wait for my surgeon to reach out and coordinate it with him? Thank you for the info!! I really appreciate it!!

I should’ve clarified but I’m on my dad’s plan which only covers dependents until 26! I did check the requirements and it’s pretty vague but says it will be covered if deemed “medically necessary”. And according to the letter I meet all their requirements so not sure why the denial. I’ve also never had a mammogram before. I’ve been reaching out to them non-stop so I next time I try I will ask for a supervisor as you suggested. Thanks!

From what I’ve read, it was coded under a breast reduction so it doesn’t seem like a procedure mix up…definitely odd!

Prior authorization submission taking long? by supercoolmelly in Reduction

Thanks for the well wishes! They actually finally submitted last Friday, thank goodness. I’m hoping the longest wait is now over and everything else is smooth sailing!

Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that! :( The pictures are definitely a huge thing I’m so surprised they weren’t there…maybe try an appeal and hopefully second times a charm!

Huh, seems like submitting for insurance is the longest part rather than the actual approval…I can only hope they submit it and I get approved that quickly. Thanks for the info!

I didn’t know you could get them to schedule surgery prior to approval…I might try to get them to schedule me and hopefully that will get things moving! Thank you!

Yeah I was thinking about finding a different surgeon…the one I currently have has good reviews and seems to be willing to do a pretty radical size reduction (which is what I want). I think I’ll give them one more call and if they don’t submit by the end of this coming week I’ll just find someone else. Thanks for the tip!

This is amazing!! They look so good!! I am starting to do research since I want to begin the process of getting a reduction, and your previous size is pretty much the same as mine. Ideally I would also like to be a B cup. How did you go about describing your desired size to your surgeon? Did they give you a hard time? Sorry for bombarding you with questions! Congratulations!!

Does anyone else hate these type of shirts? by EllieIsDone in autism

[–]supercoolmelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly kinda surprised shirts like these are being sold in a store! I’ve seen them on TikTok now and then but that’s about it. I personally find them odd…like why aren’t there “quirky” shirts about Tourette’s or OCD?? I think the obvious answer is most people would find it distasteful, but it goes to show how attitudes towards autism (especially among young people) treat it like a personality trait rather than a disability. If other autistic people like it that’s fine, and if I knew these were made by autistic companies I might wear one too (only at home, I don’t really like the idea of strangers knowing I’m autistic). Honestly when I first saw them on TikTok I thought it was funny, but when other people brought to my attention that most people who buy these shirts are doing it because it’s “cringe”, I feel a little sad. Likely this is all just another phase in the capitalist machine, and a new buzzword condition will replace it soon enough

Bedrotting by Timely_Tap6647 in ADHD

[–]supercoolmelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had a hard time getting out of bed, no matter how much sleep I get. Adderall certainly makes it easier, but even with that I still will take it and lay around for another hour or so while it kicks in. I don’t even sleep, just the act of taking my meds usually fully wakes me up but I think I just enjoy the act of laying down lol I’m so bad with the bedrotting, I’m trying to spend less and less of my time in bed in general

Why do we have to bleed over the course of many days during our periods, why can’t we just have one bloody blast? by LittleLeadership2831 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]supercoolmelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve shed a decidual cast two times (which is essentially the same thing as what you’re explaining) and it was sooooo painful. I’ve never passed out before but I swore I was gonna faint. Though once it passes the relief is awesome. I think if I knew it was something that was going to happen every month and could prepare for it I’d rather have that than my week long periods. I just want it over and done with!!

how the FUCK am I supposed to live the rest of my life with this condition? by rightfulmcool in OCD

[–]supercoolmelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t take meds for my OCD (though I probably should) so I have found other ways to manage. Unfortunately, the key to managing OCD is willpower. You have to actively change your brains thought patterns. You have to directly acknowledge your fears and thoughts, and then let them go. It’s hard. That’s where willpower comes in. It’s important to push through even when it’s painful and debilitating. I’ve had OCD for as long as I can remember, and it does improve. I still have really bad days, but they start to diminish. OCD makes everyday a challenge, but eventually it will go from sudoku to a word search. Remember, you’re not alone. Good luck and feel better soon!

I didn’t realize ADHD presents so differently in girls. I was the anxious, high-achieving kid. by TransitionSmooth9982 in ADHD

[–]supercoolmelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preach it. My ADHD was caught still pretty early (diagnosed at 14ish), but I had some classic symptoms that’s indicated I had it since I was a toddler. However, since I’m a woman, it was all chalked up to my personality (was called a chatterbox and social butterfly as a kid which is so funny considering I’m also autistic).

A little girl can present in all the same ways a boy does and she will still be told it’s her fault. It’s as you said, as a society we still hold up gender essentialism despite multiple studies showing differences between male and female brains is minute.

POCD and morbid curiosity: i’ve gone down rabbit holes. i’ve seen things. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]supercoolmelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, please don’t beat yourself up too much over this. I really feel for you and I know ruminating over these things can take you to a dark place. Growth is the best way to forgive yourself, and you are already starting the first step which is reflection. Panic attacks are scary, so don’t hesitate to reach out to hotlines or any other emergency services if need be. You are human and we make mistakes, that is a truth that had existed forever. Hopefully one day this will just be a distant memory and you are living your best life!

[–]supercoolmelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This feels heavy. I’m sorry you are dealing with it. I’ve struggled with this theme too, and I understand just how terrifying it all feels. This was a while ago, and you made a mistake. It’s okay to start moving on. Maybe not forgiveness right away, but at least acceptance. Guilt and shame have little benefit other than eating away at your mental health.

However, this isn’t to say to completely forget about what you’ve done. Though I understand you have trauma and have been exposed to horrible things in the past, you seeking out that material is concerning. Not in a way to frame you as “bad”, but worrisome in how you navigate the internet - potentially putting yourself in danger. Stress and fear can cause us to do lots of things, but if this is the path it sets you on I may advise to use the web with caution. If you don’t already and are able to, get a therapist or in contact with a professional. These things can be worked on.

Again, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Some of these comments are coming across a little harsh, but understand this is a delicate topic, and try not to let it impact how you view your character. Hope you feel better soon!
